Police say car crash that killed dad and daughter led to chilling discovery that could see mom jailed

Warning: This article contains discussion of child abuse which some readers may find distressing.

A car crash that caused the deaths of a father and daughter has prompted police to investigate the whereabouts of another child who was noticeably missing from the vehicle.

Mom Wendy Pamela Bailey suffered critical injuries in the car crash that took place in Alabama on December 9, 2024, while dad, Steven Bradley Collins, and daughter, RyLeigh Denise Collins, sadly died of their injuries.

As authorities investigated the incident, they questioned where Bailey’s son, one-year-old Kahleb Collins, was at the time of the crash. In a statement, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said Kahleb was last seen in September 2024 in Winfield, Alabama.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was made aware that Kahleb seemed to be missing, and launched an investigation which uncovered chilling details.

In the weeks after the crash, the sheriff’s office announced their belief that Kahleb is dead, though his body has not been recovered.

“Law enforcement teams are still actively gathering information and searching for his remains,” a statement from the sheriff’s office said, adding that investigators believe Kahleb had been ‘deceased for some time before his disappearance was brought to the attention of law enforcement’.

In the wake of the investigation, investigators with the Fayette County Sherriff’s Office and the Alabama State Bureau of Investigations charged Bailey, 22, with felony aggravated child abuse, felony first-degree domestic violence and felony abuse of a corpse.

The mother has also been charged with criminally negligent homicide, a misdemeanor, in relation to the death of Ryleigh, who police say was not wearing a seatbelt in the car when it crashed.

John Elton Bailey, the grandfather of Kahleb, has also been charged for failing to report Kahleb missing.

Charging documents made reference to disturbing images which had been shared by Collins which showed the alleged abuse of Kahleb.

Collins is also said to have told Bailey he was going to kill Kahleb.

The charges mark the latest update in relation to Kahleb after Collins wrote in a Facebook post in November that the young boy was ill and needed surgery.

As reported by People, the post read: “He is not growing and has major back issues. His organs are growing but not his body. Keep him in your prayers. Been rough and just seems going to be a long rough tough road ahead of us.”

According to the police’s timeline, the post came weeks after Kahleb was last seen.

If you’ve been affected by any of these issues or want to speak to someone in confidence regarding the welfare of a child, the Childhelp USA National Child Abuse Hotline (1-800-4-A-CHILD (1-800-422-4453) operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and receives calls from throughout the United States, Canada, US Virgin Islands, Guam and Puerto Rico.

Missing teen found alive 26 days after disappearing as dad reveals tip that led to her discovery

Missing teen found alive 26 days after disappearing as dad reveals tip that led to her discovery

Frank Gervasi said he ‘bust’ into the boat to rescue his daughter after an anonymous tip-off

A missing teenage girl has miraculously been found after she vanished for almost a month, thanks to her dad.

Emmarae Gervasi, from East Patchogue in Suffolk County Long Island, vanished out of thin air on December 9 when she went to retrieve some items from a car outside her home on Tyrell Street.

The 14-year-old was then seen getting into another vehicle, without a jacket or shoes in the pouring rain, while CCTV captured her knocking on doors at a Bohemia motel the next day.

She then disappeared again and her family became worried sick with her father, Frank Gervasi, taking it upon himself to try and track her down with the help of local police officers and regular search parties.

Suffolk County Police Department conducted widespread searches with police cadaver dogs and helicopters in upstate New York but couldn’t find her.

Frank took to social media to search for clues and leads into her disappearance and as well as driving around Long Island in search of her, put up a $10,000 reward for anyone who could help.

He said he received some unusual phone calls from unknown numbers but miraculously found Emmarae alive on Friday afternoon.

The concerned father said it was one anonymous tip-off that led him to her whereabouts – a large boat docked on Long Island, just off main Street in Islip near the White Cap Fish Market, some 13 miles away from home.

Frank said to News 12: “I did find her myself before police got there. It was the end of 26 days of hell seeing her alive in my arms. It was a gift from God.

“I can’t describe the feeling I had when I grabbed her.”

The youngster is now receiving treatment in hospital, while investigators continue to examine the case.

In a Facebook video posted on Saturday morning, Frank thanked all the people who were involved in the search party and explained how he came to find his missing daughter.

He said: “I’d like to thank the community for all the support you gave us. Posting all the videos, pushing all the content, handing out flyers, donating your time to look for my missing girl. It is those things that are going to help bring other kids home.

“I got an anonymous tip yesterday, and I want to thank that person for coming forward and giving me information about my daughter. The phone call that I received was that she was on a boat in Islip. I followed it up on my own and I went down there to check.

“I bust into the boat and recovered my daughter. She has been saved and is alive.

“I believe it was persistency that helped bring her home.”

Frank said he believes Emmarae initially went off with someone she knew but was too scared to come back home ‘because of the consequences’.

He also said he thinks she was picked up by a stranger who took her to a trailer park and then the boat.

The teen had reportedly had a history with drug addiction, according to FOX5NY, and had left home before but never for so long.

Emmarae’s court-monitored ankle bracelet was also found cut-off near her address.

Her mother, Melissa Dervay, told Greater Long Island: “The moment I heard her voice and knew she was OK, I felt a weight lifted off my body.

“I’ve been so tense for the past four weeks, quietly fighting a battle. Now, I’m elated. I feel light, and I just want to scream, ‘She’s OK. She’s been found.'”

A teenager who was injured when two others crashed into her during an alleged police chase has opened up about the incident and their deaths.

On June 25, a collision involving two vehicles and a utility pole took place near the intersection of Southeast 139th Avenue and Southeast Division Street in Portland, Oregon killing two and injuring two others.

One vehicle had Ida B. Wells High School – located in Southwest Portland – sophomore students Dylan Brasky, 16, and Jayden Rolon-Ekis, 16, inside, alongside Cole ‘CJ’ Johnson – a recent graduate from the same school.

At around 12:14am, Portland Police Bureau reports that Gresham Police Department officers had ‘attempted to stop [the] vehicle in the area of Southeast 159th Avenue and Southeast Division Street,’ however, the vehicle eluded officials.

“Minutes later, Gresham Police found the car crashed near the intersection of Southeast 139th Avenue and Southeast Division Street,” the report continues.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, ‘investigators determined Rolon-Ekis was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash [and] Brasky was a passenger in the vehicle’.

Driver of the other vehicle, Allesia Westphall has since spoken out about her recollection of the incident.

Westphall told KATU she’d ‘sped up a little bit’ and was planning on getting ‘over to the left lane’ after spotting ‘two cars in the lane next to [her]’ and the car ‘kind of behind’ her looking like it was about to ‘lane change’.

However, ‘before [she] could even think,’ Westphall saw headlights in her rearview and ‘felt a big bang’.

She continued: “I held on as tight as I could. I used all my muscle, and I let God take the wheel.”

The crash left Westphall unable to open the doors of her car, so she was forced to climb onto her sunroof and stood there ‘waiting for a paramedic or a cop to help’.

Westphall walked away with a ‘sprained back and whiplash’ alongside ‘bruises head to toe’.

Both Brasky and Rolon-Ekis were found deceased at the scene and the third individual was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, and Westphall has since reflected on the duo’s passing.

She said: “Those boys did not deserve to die in that accident at all.

“They maybe made a dumb decision, but they still can learn from their decisions. “Like, they should’ve gotten another chance. It’s not fair.”

Brasky and Rolon-Ekis’ passing and Johnson’s injuries have since been addressed by the principal of their school.

A letter sent out to parents stated: “Our hearts go out to Dylan and Jayden’s families and friends, and we continue to wish CJ a full recovery.”

The school has also offered support to staff and students once the next year begins.

Anyone with information about the incident, who has not yet spoken to authorities, is asked to contact crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov, attention Traffic Investigations Unit, and reference case number 24-156826.

Chilling words of teen girl after she killed mom and boyfriend following disapproval of their relationship

Chilling words of teen girl after she killed mom and boyfriend following disapproval of their relationship

Julia Egler waited for her mom to get home before killing her and her mom’s boyfriend, a chilling 911 call has revealed what she said

The chilling words of a teenage girl have been revealed after she killed both her mom and her mom’s boyfriend following a row over their relationship.

Julia Grace Egler, aged just 16, faces two counts of first-degree murder charges after her 38-year-old mom Kelley McCollom and her 22-year-old boyfriend Matthew Szejnrok were found dead at her home in Palm Bay, Florida.

It was Egler who reported their deaths to Palm Bay Police Department in floods of tears, but instead of handing herself in, she claimed an intruder broke into their home before executing the pair, according to the force.

The incident took place at around midnight on Sunday, July 7, and when police arrived at the home their discovered they had both been shot – something the teen never mentioned to the dispatcher during the 911 call.

According to officials, Egler told them how ‘an unknown male intruder had entered the residence through a back sliding glass door’.

Adding: “Egler admitted to obtaining a .38 special revolver from [McCollom’s] bedroom, waiting for the victims to return home, and then shooting them multiple times.”

They added that Egler had ‘cited longstanding conflicts’ with her mom over the teen’s gender transition, as well as her relationship with a man 16 years her senior.

Officials reported that Szejnrok’s body was found in bathroom, and he had been shot and stabbed, meanwhile McCollom’s corpse was found in the living room.

A sworn statement, otherwise known as an affidavit, read: “When they walked through the front door, [the suspect] told them ‘welcome home’.”

This is when the crazed teen shot McCollom more than once, before repeatedly unloading on Szejnrok ‘as he pleaded’ with her to stop.

The affidavit reported how ‘Egler then followed Matthew into the bathroom where he retreated and began stabbing him repeatedly’, before reloading after he asked her to put him ‘out of his misery’ and shot him in his head.

But it was the chilling words she said to the dispatcher after killing her mom and her mom’s boyfriend that was really hair-raising.

The dispatcher said: “You still have your dogs with you?” to which she replied: “They’re still in my room. I didn’t let them out because I didn’t want them getting blood all over their paws.”

The shocked dispatcher then said: “Wait, did you say blood all over their paws? Is there blood inside your house?” before adding: “Whose blood is it? Do you know if anyone is hurt at your house?”

Egler then replied in floods of tears: “They’re dead.”

Egler, who has been named due to the circumstances of the crime, was arrested and transferred to the Juvenile Detention Center.

The car crash happened back in May and as well as Flores’ death, five other people were injured – some of them being serious.

On July 9, Roper was charged with manslaughter and his record of ‘inattentive driving or excessive speed’ has come to light.

A total of three vehicles were involved in the crash and observations from the scene indicated the Roper’s car t-boned a Ford Focus.

Flores was riding as a passenger in this car and the other two people in the car were taken to hospital after the crash with broken bone injuries.

While doing traffic enforcement, Roper’s car was waiting stationary on the exit ramp from 6th St. SW onto highway 52 before taking off at rapid speed.

He reportedly exited the ramp at 98 mph to catch another motorist for a minor traffic violation before the crash.

The Olmsted County Attorney’s Office press release about the matter included the full charges against Roper.

They included: “Second Degree Manslaughter along with Criminal Vehicular Homicide related to Ms. Flores as well as several charges of Criminal Vehicular Operation related to the other victims.”

The family are expectedly devastated especially as Flores was set to celebrate her graduation.

The family’s attorneys highlighted the family’s grief and spoke at a press conference following the charges against Roper. They also questioned why he could continue doing his jobs despite his many previous driving infractions.

The family’s attorney Dan McIntosh said: “It doesn’t make sense from an outsider observer how he could continue to be put in a squad car without more controls on him, without more oversight of what he is doing.”

The family’s second attorney Tom Braun also said: “The Flores family is very concerned about the institutional operations of the state patrol.

“Their hope and their desire is to keep everyone accountable in terms of how we got to this point today, where we have a trooper on the road who shouldn’t have been on the road.”

Looking at the Roper’s previous incidents, the court documents stated Roper had engaged in high-speed driving without emergency lights, in one instance getting to speeds of 135mph in a 55mph zone, while other times it was over 99mph.

In some cases, he had turned off his emergency lights while maintaining extreme speeds.
