A man who had an erection for 30 hours has been awarded a hefty sum in compensation after doctors made a serious mistake.
A 36-year-old man from Valenica, Spain, appeared before a health centre in Albaida some four hours after his penis remained erect and failed to come back down, according to reports in Spanish press.
The unnamed man was diagnosed with priapism, which the Mayo Clinic describes as a painful, ‘prolonged erection’ that isn’t always caused by sexual arousal but sometimes can be.

It happens when blood is unable to flow out of the veins of the penis and it requires swift medical treatment to prevent tissue damage or other complications such as erectile dysfunction.
However, despite the diagnosis, the man said in his medical negligence claim that there were severe delays in accessing the treatment he urgently needed and a hospital botched the surgery on his genitalia.
He visited the Ontinyent Hospital twice with his wife, some 20 hours after the problem first started.

The claimant alleges the hospital told him there would be a further wait to see a urologist and so went via a referral to another hospital, the Lluis Alcanyis Hospital in Xativa.
There, he was admitted with a fever, which can sometimes accompany priapism.
As per protocol, doctors drained the blood from his penis and booked him in for an appointment a few days later for a malleable penile prosthesis, a semi-rigid implant that helps men to regain an erection, maintain a sex life and quickly relieve priapism pain.
However, the patient said the prosthesis came out and was ‘poorly fitted’, requiring a second operation.
He alleged the surgery at another hospital failed (Google Maps)
In his bid for compensation, the claimant said he wasn’t properly treated by the medics across the hospitals and has been left with constant pain followed by complications with getting and maintaining an erection.
He suffers from permanent erectile dysfunction, pain in his left leg and has lost sensitivity and strength in his right arm, reports The Olive Press.
The regional government covering Valenica has since been ordered to pay the man $50,000, and a further $5,000 to his wife in ‘moral’ damages.
The couple said they reportedly endured a ‘lengthy’ four-year battle with their claim to the Albaida and Valencian authorities.
Jorge Sanchez, a urologist who was not involved in the case, told local media: “Four or five hours of priapism can cause damage to the penis tissue and 20 hours later the risk is higher.
“If the erection continues, the only solution is break two tubes in the penis called the corpora cavernosa that fill with blood to make it stiff during an erection.
“If they are ruptured the patient will no longer be able to have an erection and will require a prosthesis”, reports the Daily Mail.

A man whose Pepsi addiction lead to him drinking a staggering 30 cans of the stuff a day has revealed the shocking effects it had on his body, as well as his bank account.
Andy Currie would start every day with a litre of fizzy pop and would drink a further nine litres throughout the day.
“I’ve always loved the taste of a cold Pepsi. Nothing could beat it and I just got hooked,”Andy, from Bangor, Wales, confessed.
“I work nights so always liked the sugar rush to keep me going. I’d go through four or five two litre bottles of Pepsi every day.

“Because I work at Tesco I could just buy it straight after work and take it home.”
‘It cost me a fortune’
Andy would spend a whopping $25 a day on Pepsi, which racked up to around $8,500 a year on his favourite drink.
“It cost me a fortune to be honest. I could have bought a car every year for the same amount I was spending on Pepsi,” he admitted.
“I just needed to have it, as soon as I woke up I’d go to the fridge and pour myself a large glass of Pepsi and just carry on through the day.
“I remember going to weddings and birthdays and while other people had glasses of champagne I’d be toasting people with a can of fizzy pop.”
Andy’s health began to deteriorate after his Pepsi consumption got out of control, and it got to the point where the Brit topped 19 stone and was at risk of developing diabetes.
While he managed to lose two stone through a strict diet, Andy was still struggling to quit drinking Pepsi for good.

‘It became a poison and a crutch to him’
It was London-based therapist and hypnotist David Kilmurry who Andy got in touch with as a result, and he saw results almost instantly.
“David met me online and hypnotised me for about 40 minutes,” Andy said.
He continued: “I don’t know what he said but afterwards I just didn’t want to drink it anymore.
“I’ve still got two cans of Pepsi in my fridge which I was going to have before the session but didn’t have time.
“I prefer water now. My wife Sarah says my skin looks better and I’ve got so much more energy.”
David said: “I was horrified at Andy’s disclosure of drinking 10 litres of Pepsi a day.
“That was by far the worst sugar addiction I’ve ever heard of.
“Resigned to addiction, Andy was overweight, anxious and struggled to get his words out because he was so breathless.
“It became a poison and a crutch to him. Since working with him I am delighted to see him drinking water and healthy drinks.”

An artist has opened up about his decision to undergo three operations to modify one of his hands.
Marcelo De Souza Ribeiro – who goes by ‘B-boy’ – from Bocaiúva, Brazil got his first tattoo at the age of 15 and has continued to alter his body ever since.
With over 1,500 tattoos and counting, the father-of-two embarked on a more drastic change in the form of undergoing three one-hour-long surgical procedures to modify his left hand.

Already having had his ears modified to look like elf ears, implants in his arms, an implant in his forehead and ears, lips, eyes and tongue tattooed, it’s fair to say Ribeiro wasn’t as fazed by the prospect of getting his hand modified as most of us would be.
He told Business Insider the three procedures conducted on his left hand were ‘smooth, quick, and not painful,’ despite being performed by a friend for free – although, thankfully still under anaesthetic.
Ribeiro – who has over one million followers on Instagram – explained: “I can now open the hand laterally and fold it in two parts.”
Well, Ribeiro explains he thinks of his body much like an ‘art exhibition’.
And it certainly has a price tag to match, the artist reportedly having spent around $35,000 dollars on his alterations, tattoos and implants.
While Ribeiro is known to many as ‘the most modified man in the world’ – which seems believable given the lengthy list of procedures he’s undergone – that’s not actually the case, at least according to Guinness World Records.
As per Guinness World Records, 62-year-old Rolf Buchholz from Germany currently holds the world record title for not only the ‘most body modifications (male)’ but also the ‘most piercings, single count (male)’ too.
Verified in 2012, ‘he totalled 516 body modifications, among which there are several implants and 481 piercings (278 alone on his genitals), but the number has increased over the years,’ the site explains.
Buchholz reflected: “I didn’t do it for the record. I got the record at the end, yes, but I did the modifications for me. I like the modification, I find it good, so I did it.”
Although, with Buchholz’s world record verified over 10 years ago, perhaps it has since been overtaken and potentially by Ribeiro?
UNILAD has contacted Guinness World Records for comment.

Warning: This article contains graphic images which some readers may find distressing.
I hate to panic you but, if you’ve been suffering with constipation lately, you might want to read this.
A man in China ended up having to undergo major surgery after being unable to poop for a staggering 22 years.
The patient, who wished to remain anonymous, suffered with constipation all his life.

Laxatives barely helped the poor guy, so he eventually sought out medical attention.
Dr Yin Lu, from 10th People’s Hospital of Shanghai, described the man as ‘looking more than nine months pregnant’ when he first saw his patient.
It wasn’t until he the doctor operated on the man that he discovered the full extent of his illness, however.
Dr Yin Lu soon found out that the man had a lifetime’s worth of faeces built up in his colon, and ultimately had to remove 30 inches of his colon following a three-hour long surgery in 2017.
The man’s swollen colon weighed an alarming 29lb and he reportedly went on to be diagnosed with something known as Hirschsprung’s disease.
It’s thought that the illness only affects one in every 5,000 live births.
Shanghai Tenth People’s Hospital
According to Boston’s Children Hospital, Hirschsprung’s disease ‘occurs when some of your baby’s intestinal nerve cells (ganglion cells) don’t develop properly, delaying the progression of stool through the intestines’.
The website further explains: “The intestine becomes blocked with stool, and your baby or child will be constipated (unable to have normal bowel movements). Often, a serious infection called enterocolitis can occur, which causes fever, pain, and diarrhea.”
Symptoms of the illness include: failure to have a bowel movement in the first 48 hours of life, abdominal distention (stomach bloating), gradual onset of vomiting, fever, and constipation or failure to pass regular bowel movements.

It’s not always something that people develop at birth, however. Some children might start showing signs of Hirschsprung’s disease when they’re older.
Older kids’ symptoms may be: constipation that becomes worse with time, loss of appetite, delayed growth, passing small and watery stools, and abdominal distention.
It’s thought that the man who underwent surgery ended up so ill with the disease because when he was younger, his family did give much thought into his symptoms so he also assumed it ‘was not a big deal’, he told The Paper.
But as he grew older, he began to fear that had Hirschsprung’s disease.
Basically, don’t ignore constipation, folks.

A farmer who lost both of his arms during a horrific accident made an astonishing recovery.
Farming is a highly dangerous job, particularly when operating heavy machinery.
And North Dakotan farmer, John Thompson, found this out in an awful way when he was unloading pig feed with a grain auger.
In 1992, John was working as usual when his t-shirt snagged on an uncovered power takeoff (PTO) shaft on the machine.
The then-18-year-old was home alone at the time of the accident, and woke up with his dog licking his face.
In a shocking moment, John realised that both of his arms had been torn off in the accident.
Somehow, he managed to walk 100 yards back to his home, turned the doorknob with his mouth and used a pencil in his teeth to dial on the phone to get help.
He then sat in the bath so he wouldn’t get blood on his mom’s new carpet.
After going to hospital, John was reportedly told by a medic that he ‘shouldn’t be alive’, as there was practically ‘no blood in you’.

You might think that this would have been an extremely painful experience, but John recounted that the moment of losing his arms he didn’t feel anything.
Recounting that day, he said: “I was just doing that, standing around playing with the dog and somehow I got too close to the PTO shaft.
“My shirt wasn’t tucked in and they figure my shirt got wrapped up in the PTO shaft. I still remember spinning on the shaft and then my arms just finally came off, didn’t feel a thing.”
He added: “It’s said when I got to the emergency room at the first hospital that all my nerves were hanging out of my right arm, if they touched that it sent me through the roof but otherwise I didn’t have anything.”
But not only did John survive an accident which could very easily have killed him, he went on to make a full recovery.
Yes, including getting his arms back.

John was put onto a plane bound for Minnesota, where his arms were surgically reattached.
He was then placed into a medically induced coma to help him to heal properly.
But things were far from over. During his coma he got a blood infection, and had to undergo further surgery.
Ultimately, however, the procedure was a success, and he was able to regain the use of his arms in an astonishing recovery.
After leaving hospital and undergoing rehabilitation to help him to get used to using his arms again, he lifted weights to rebuild his strength.
He did say that he has lost some of the fine motor skills, as well as some memory problems around the accident.
But he does remember his first ever plane journey, which was the one he took to hospital, and joking that his arms felt cold.
At the time, they were in a box of ice being preserved.
