After an individual is sentenced to a period of time behind bars, they are often sent to prison straight away.

That wasn’t the case for one particular man, however, as he was never actually taken to jail – despite receiving a 13 year sentence.

The case of Cornealious Anderson is certainly a surprising story, and one you’d expect from a some kind of Shawshank Redemption type film.

The Missouri man was convicted and sentenced back in 1999 for the armed robbery of a Burger King manager while he was making a bank deposit.

After that, Anderson posted bail and appealed his sentence – with the latter being denied.

But while all of this was happening, no one ever came to lock him up.

Somehow, it looked like Anderson had got away with it, and he began to carry in his life as normal, even joining a church, starting a small business, getting married and becoming a father of four.

He was a youth football coach and generally lived an upstanding life, without ever making any effort to conceal his identity.

But while Anderson was living that somewhat normal life, his original lawyer and almost everyone else involved in the case had assumed the robber had gone to prison.

Eventually, however, the Missouri Department of Corrections discovered that a clerical error meant Anderson had never actually gone to prison in the first place.

Anderson had spent what sounds like a happy 13 years – the length of his sentence – out of jail, but in 2013 a SWAT team came to his home and arrested him.

Recalling the moment to Jessica Lussenhop, as told on NPR’s This American Life, Anderson said: “I was sleeping. I was awoken. I was about 6 o’clock in the morning, woken by knocking at the door. And it was unusual knocking.

“It was the consistent knocking– you know, the hard knocking. So I knew something– what is going on?

“So I just stood at the top of the stairs for a moment. And finally I said, who is it? I’m in my boxers. And they said, marshals. Open it up or it’s coming down. Opened up the door.

“As soon as I opened up the door, it was a small army. I mean, it was about eight of them. They had the shields. They had the helmets. They had the AR-15 style machine-looking guns. And they had the street blocked off. And I said, hey man, you got the wrong person. And he just looked at me. He said, ‘no, you’re the right person’.”

Anderson was taken to prison but after nine months, his request for release was granted, with Judge Terry Lynn Brown saying his life over the previous 13 years had led him to believe he was a ‘changed man’.

Paris Hilton has long been in the spotlight, but it turns out she hasn’t been using her ‘real’ voice for all this time.

Hilton became a 00s icon alongside Nicole Richie after starring in The Simple Life together; a show where both Richie and Hilton — who grew in wealthy homes — were forced to get low paying jobs and live with middle-class families.

The show propelled the pair into international stardom, with Hilton in particular becoming well-known for what she’s previously described as her ‘ditzy airhead character’.

But it turns out this is just a front for the DJ, heiress, and socialite.

She recently revealed that she opted to use her ‘real voice’ in her 2024 album Infinite Icon with the encouragement of Sia.

Discussing the persona she’d put on for so many years, Hilton explained in an interview with Nylon: “In the beginning, it was kind of a trauma response, where I wanted to create this perfect Barbie doll life because of what I went through as a teenager at those emotional-growth boarding… I hate even calling them ‘schools’. This was a protective mask.”

The mom-of-two alleges that she was abused at the school she was sent to for supposedly ‘troubled teens’.

In light of her reported experiences, Hilton has been campaigning to improve child welfare protections in the US and while speaking at a House committee last year on the matter, the 43-year-old revealed her real voice.

Now, her 2024 interview with First We Feast where she discussed her favorite snacks is doing the rounds online as Hilton seemingly accidentally switched from her ‘persona’ voice to her real one.

The moment occurred as she discussed her love of cereals like Lucky Charms and Rice Krispies.

Hilton’s apparent slip-up has been discussed on Reddit of late as people shared their thoughts on how she really sounds.

“Her actual voice is incredibly less annoying,” one person said.

Echoing similar sentiments, someone else wrote: “I concur I be inclined to say I’d be happy to hear her real voice more.”

Others hailed Hilton’s real voice as ‘sexy’. Someone penned: “She has a very sexy naturally deep voice imo.”

“Dude her real voice is so sexy,” wrote a second.

“I don’t know why but I was immediately attracted to that voice,” a third added.

Elsewhere on First We Feast’s YouTube video, people said that she should use her real voice more often.

I mean, it must be pretty tiring putting on a voice that isn’t your own all the time.

Imagine checking your bank account to find an unexpected $89 million in there?

That’s what happened to Daniel Levene when he found a little bit more money than he expected.

Most of us wake up to a notification or two, maybe a spam email and a missed call from mom, but this New Yorker had a very big surprise.

Levene is a Manhattan venture capitalist who thought he had struck it lucky when he checked his account one morning in April 2023.

He logged onto his computer for business as usual, and checked his bank balance.

A former Goldman Sachs bond trader, he found many more zeroes in his account than he expected.

The major windfall had been deposited by E-Trade Financial Corporation. A subsidiary of Morgan Stanley, the corporation offers an electronic trading platform to trade financial assets.

So just how much was in his bank? Well, Levene had $89,900,912 flashing before his eyes.

The stunned man asked the question any of us would be asking: “Did I just win the lottery?”

Next, he decided to call a friend to share the ‘good news’, and joked: “Let’s go to Monaco, buy a yacht, and watch the Grand Prix.”

What would your first thought be if you thought you were rich? Unfortunately, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Recalling the fateful day to The New York Post, Levene confessed: “Obviously, I knew it was a mistake.”

His next step was to contact an E-Trade customer service rep to try and get to the bottom of it.

He sent an email to the – no doubt equally shocked – agent with a photo of his monster bank balance.

In an understated fashion, Levene wrote: “This is interesting – Please call me IMMEDIATELY – Did I just win the Lottery???”

Now you’d be forgiven for thinking that a company would notice a missing $89 million pretty quickly – but it doesn’t seem so.

Instead of replying in minutes, or calling Daniel ‘IMMEDIATELY’ as he had requested, they actually took more than an hour to get back to him and sort the return.

The company apologized profusely for dashing Levene’s financial hopes and dreams, but they didn’t immediately offer up an explanation.

A representative for E-Trade said they ‘did not process any wire transfers anywhere in the neighborhood of what is being suggested’.

They insisted that if such an unusual case were to happen, the company would ‘always work closely with that customer to resolve the issue’.

“In such a case, no funds would have left the firm,” they added.

Maybe Levene should have just kept quiet about his newfound wealth…

If you ever chat away in English while on holiday and find yourself stared at by a non-native speaker then this may be why.

Even if you don’t speak another language, it’s likely you could probably distinguish what language it is based on what it sounds like.

Even if you don’t understand necessarily what the other person is saying, you may gage whether they’re talking in Spanish or French for example.

However, a TikToker has since revealed what people who don’t speak English really make of people chatting away in English and it’s blowing everyone’s minds.

A TikToker who goes by the Language Simp – or @languagesimp – speaks several languages, including English – he’s certainly in the ideal position to reveal how we sound to non-English speakers.

And would you believe it, it seems we pretty much talk like the characters in the Sims, bizarre, right?

In a clip that’s since been viewed more than eight million times, he shares a short speech – if you can call it that – in a bizarre gibberish that sounds a lot like English but makes absolutely no sense.

The effect is a little strange for those of us who do speak English, with one social media users commenting: “I felt like I should understand what he was saying.”

While another asked: “You are telling me people hear me talking like a Sim?”

“I feel like I understand what he’s saying, but I also don’t,” echoed a third.

Another TikTok user pointed out: “This sounds right… but it’s not… “

“For some reason I keep actually trying to comprehend what he’s saying and then realize he’s speaking literal gibberish not english,” penned a fifth.

A sixth revealed: “No cause if you don’t pay attention to what he’s saying it literally sounds normal.”

“This is what I hear when I disassociate,” joked someone else.

Many were inspired by the TikTok video to try their hand at being bilingual, with one confessing: “This is why I’m learning another language.”

And one viewer pretty much hit the nail on the head perfectly.

They wrote: “Its like hearing a conversation from outside: you know in what language they are speaking but you cant actually tell what they are saying.”

A final TikTok user added: “My train of thought, to try an understand what you actually said, derailed.”

Same.
