Nintendo shares first look at the Switch 2 and it has people pointing out the same thing

After many months of waiting, Nintendo has shared a first look at the Switch 2, however, the announcement has caught people’s attention for the same reason.

The first Nintendo Switch dropped in 2017 and instantly became a much-loved console amongst gamers because of the option to play on the go.

Of course, there is also the possibility to doc the console to the tele, but the handheld mode was seemingly very much preferred amongst Switch players.

The console’s successor, Switch 2, has been announced by Nintendo today (January 16).

A press release from Nintendo reads: “Nintendo Switch 2 plays Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games, as well as both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games.

“Certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. Details will be shared on the Nintendo website at a later date.”

And fans wanting to get their hands on Switch 2 certainly won’t have long to wait, as the company has announced a 2025 release date for the console.

More details surrounding Nintendo Switch 2 will be detailed on April 2 at a digital presentation titled ‘Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2’, according to the press release.

But on Thursday (January 16), Nintendo released a ‘first-look’ trailer for the new console and fans are noticing that it looks awfully similar to its predecessor – albeit slightly larger.

“I’m so glad it looks the same, what’s broke doesn’t need fixing..just some upgrades,” one fan posted on Twitter.

A second added: “Holy s*** it’s the same thing,” while a third remarked: “Kinda looks the same to me except with the two on it.

Meanwhile, a fourth quipped: “It’s like the other one…but 2.”

As well as providing a first-look at what exactly Nintendo Switch 2 looks like, the company also gave us a look at a new Mario Kart game.

The snippet of footage included famed characters like Mario, Peach, Luigi and Bowser, and with Mario Kart being synonymous with Nintendo, it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise to see a new game from the franchise launch with Switch 2 later this year.

And talking of games on the Switch, Nintendo has also announced players will be able to try the console prior to its release.

Nintendo Switch 2 Experience events in the North America are as follows:

  • New York, April 4-6, 2025
  • Los Angeles, April 11-13, 2025
  • Dallas, April 25-27, 2025
  • Toronto, April 25-27, 2025

Walmart reveals new logo for first 'refresh' in nearly 20 years but everyone is pointing out the same thing

Walmart reveals new logo for first ‘refresh’ in nearly 20 years but everyone is pointing out the same thing

Walmart recently unveiled its ‘comprehensive brand refresh’

Walmart has excitedly unveiled its new logo — and everyone has been left saying the same thing.

Yesterday (January 13), the multinational corporation shared a media release detailing its apparent ‘comprehensive brand refresh’.

The statement began: “Walmart is excited to announce a comprehensive brand refresh that reflects its evolution as a people-led, tech-powered omnichannel retailer.

“From its humble beginnings in Bentonville, Arkansas, in 1951, Walmart has grown into a global leader dedicated to helping people save money and live better.”

Going on to detail what has changed, Walmart said that the ‘refresh’ is regarding its logo’s wordmark, spark, color palette and tone.

While the changes imply that the iconic Walmart logo has undergone a drastic change, it’s far from it.

The color palette is now supposedly ‘True Blue and Spark Yellow’ and the ‘sparks’ seem to have simply become marginally wider.

People have since been sharing their thoughts online of the ‘updated look’ from Walmart, and many people have been echoing similar sentiments.

Commenting on before and after photos of the logo, one person wrote on Twitter: “How much do you think they paid for this? $1M? $10M? $100M?”

Someone else quipped: “Wow, this is remarkable! I hope they’re paying that graphic designer a lot of money.”

“Absolutely incredible work by their design team. Raises for them all,” joked someone else.

Another person suggested: “Some consulting firm fleeced them for $500M for this.”

Poking fun on Jaguar’s recent decision to drastically change its logo, a different person penned: “This is a win because it wasn’t the Jaguar design agency that did it.”

Despite the scepticism about the new look, William White, senior vice president and Chief Marketing Officer of Walmart US, seems to be quite pleased with the ‘refresh’.

“While the look and feel of our brand is more contemporary, our refreshed brand identity reflects Walmart’s enduring commitment to both [Walmart founder] Sam [Walton]’s principles and serving our customers however they need us,” he said.

“As our customers evolve, we will too. Our Walmart will always be their Walmart, and our brand will always be a testament to how we innovate and change alongside them.”

The press released added: “The updated brand identity will help Walmart build credibility and connection, become known for its convenient digital-first services and be seen as a more modern, culturally dynamic brand.”

What do you think of Walmart’s so-called ‘brand refresh’?

Having attended Jimmy Carter’s funeral earlier this week, Kamala Harris has shared a photo from the ceremony and everyone is noticing the same awkward thing.

Carter died at the age of 100 years old on December 29, having become the longest-living president in US history.

President Carter is survived by his children Jack, Chip, Jeff, and Amy, 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

The former president, who left office in 1981, lived so long that two of the eulogies were written by people who died before him— his vice president Walter Mondale, and his White House predecessor Gerald Ford.

On Thursday (January 9), Carter was laid to rest in Washington National Cathedral, with all of his living successors in attendance.

Vice President Harris was also there, and has since posted a picture from the funeral on the VP’s official social media accounts.

She wrote: “President Jimmy Carter loved our country. He lived his faith, served the people, and left the world better than he found it.

“President Carter’s many contributions will echo for generations to come.”

Joe Biden and former presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama were all in the picture as they placed their hands over their hearts.

President-elect Donald Trump was also in attendance, sat by Obama and incoming first lady Melania Trump, but the Trump’s were nowhere to be seen in the snap.

It seems as though the incoming president of the United Sates has indeed been cropped out.

“This crop is legendary,” one person said in the Instagram comments.

A second added: “I immediately laughed when I saw this image. I love a good cropped photo.”

And a third remarked: “I love the crop on this photo.”

While you may not see him, Trump was indeed in attendance at the ceremony, and even shared a laugh and a joke with Obama.

During one snippet, Obama was seen laughing at Trump who said: “Can you imagine?” according to a lip reader who spoke to Sky News

“We are here for a tough show,” the president-elect continued.

Trump also asked his predecessor: “Would you give me a go at starting it?”

Obama then said: “Yeah, I would. Yeah. We’ll see what happens.”

Away from what Obama and Trump were chatting about, Carter’s family paid tribute to the 100-year-old.

Joshua Carter, his grandson, said: “He built houses for people who needed homes. “He eliminated diseases in forgotten places. He waged peace anywhere in the world, wherever he saw a chance. He loved people.”

People all pointing out the same thing after watching new Netflix sci-fi drama

The new sci-fi drama on Netflix has certainly got people talking, and they’re all saying the same thing about it

A new sci fi drama has got viewers of Netflix talking, and they’re all saying the same thing.

The limited series was released onto the popular streaming platform, with just four episodes, which are each approximately one hour long.

Limited series have proven to be a popular and successful format for Netflix, with many big name shows falling into the category.

They are a good way to tell a self-contained story within a few hours of television, a marked departure from shows which can go on for multiple, sprawling seasons.

Titles such The Queen’s GambitAlias Grace, and Unbelievable all fall into this, and have now been joined by this sci fi miniseries.

But after watching the four episode limited series, viewers of it are all saying the same thing.

So what is this science fiction series, and what is everyone saying about it?

The series is called The Signal, and is a four-part story following an astronaut in space and a family on the ground.

Fair warning, there are some pretty heavy spoilers for The Signal coming up below – you have been warned!

The German series stars Florian David Fitz, Peri Baumeister, Hadi Khanjanpour, and Yuna Bennett, who must unravel a mystery which shows increasing danger to both them and to the world at large.

Things start off when an astronaut goes missing from the International Space Station under mysterious circumstances.

The series has had some negative comments online, though one person put the low reviews down to it needing subtitles.

A family must unravel a mystery.

Netflix

They wrote: “Just watched all 4 hrs of Netflix’s limited series ‘The Signal.’ A modern presentation of classic TV sci-fi. Very much in the style of Bradbury’s Martian Chronicles.

“Don’t let bad reviews fool you. This is a German production, subtitles are needed, hence the low scores.”

The Signal doesn’t have a critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and its audience score is currently at 40 percent.

And viewers of the show are all saying the same thing about it after finishing the four episodes.

Once again, spoiler alert.

It seems that viewers have been left confused by the ending.

One person wrote: “It was good till you reach the end and think is that it what a waste.”

A second echoed that sentiment, posting: “Spoiler: People died for nothing”, while another wrote: “Boring. The people in the plane died for nothing.”

A fourth person also criticised the ending, writing: “It was good but the ending sucked a little.”

Will you be giving it a watch?

People are flooding to social media to weigh in on a ‘stunning’ but potentially risky tattoo.

A tattoo showing Super Mario favorites Mario and Princess Peach has gone viral.

Uploaded by tattoo artist Pablo Ezequiel Frias on his own social media, before being re-shared on X by others, the arm shows the iconic characters and other notable features of the game such as the Piranha Plants and Bullet Bill.

The first arm took a whopping 18 hours to complete, according to the artist’s Instagram page.

However, it’s not taken long for people to share their thoughts on the tattoo, with many in awe of the skilled work, but others all saying the same thing.

One X user joked: “Nintendo gonna put his arm in a bIender for this.”

“Nintendo gonna sue him take his arm and put it in a glass case at their headquarters,” another added.

However, a third noted: “Holy. props to that artist tho. this tat looks amazing.”

“Omg they taking his arm and house,” a fourth commented.

And a final said: “Bro should start practicing how to live with one arm.”

Is Nintendo strict with copyright?

Nintendo is known to have some pretty strict approaches when it comes to copyrighting of its designs.

Nintendo’s page on ‘Intellectual Property and Piracy FAQ’ states in pretty specific detail its stance when it comes to copyright, explaining ‘a copyright is an exclusive right granted to a creator of a literary, musical, audio-visual or artistic work, giving the creator the sole right to reproduce and distribute that work’.

It continues: “There are several different types of copyrights that are associated with Nintendo’s products. These include various copyrights in Nintendo’s software source code, executable code, game visual display, game music, game characters, product packaging, game manuals and labels, hardware chip microcode, artwork and publications.”

It also notes it has ‘anti-piracy programs’ in over 40 countries and uses ‘legal enforcement, consumer awareness, technology and seeking improved intellectual property legislation’ to enforce it. *Gulps*

Are tattoos protected by copyright laws?

Magnum Tattoo Supplies explains the full copyright of a tattoo is owned by the tattoo artist who designed it, but what happens if they haven’t fully designed it and have used well-known figures such as Nintendo’s Mario? And what about the person who’s had the tattoo done?

Well, Magnum Tattoo Supplies says the person who’s had the tattoo on them doesn’t own the rights so ‘cannot legally reproduce the image commercially or use it profiteer from in any way’.

The supplies site continues: “While it is technically possible for a tattoo artist to replicate a drawing and utilise it for a tattoo, it is not regarded best practise legally, professionally, or creatively. Most artists like to create something unique, sometimes gaining inspiration from an existing picture or piece of art and adding their own creative twists and unique aspects.

“Legally speaking, it would be considered copyright infringement to use someone else’s unaltered artwork as a tattoo, but it would be unlikely that a person would sue over this or pursue any type of legal action.”

However, this doesn’t mean it’s impossible – with a tattoo artist having been dragged into a legal battle to do with copyright before.

Kat Von D ended up winning a first-of-its-kind lawsuit which saw her accused of violating copyright law by the photograph of a picture of jazz musician Miles Davis which she used as a reference for a tattoo for a friend for free.

UNILAD has contacted Nintendo and Pablo Ezequiel Frias for comment.
