A new three-part documentary is seeking to expose the ‘hidden-in-plain-sight, unregulated family vlogging industry’ as it shines a line on the shocking case of a couple who ‘re-homed’ their adopted son.

Family vloggers Myka and James Stauffer stunned the internet when they uploaded their video titled ‘An Update on Our Family’ back in 2020.

In the clip, the couple explained they had ‘re-homed’ their son three years after they had documented his adoption process for their viewers.

Now, a new HBO docu-series aptly titled An Update on Our Family has shed light on the couple’s shocking fall from grace.

The dark side of ‘family vlogging’

The family – who had raked in a staggering 700,000 followers on Myka’s YouTube channel and over 300,000 on the family’s vlog channel – had previously shown their son’s photo online before his adoption from China was finalized, with Myka opening up to viewers about his additional needs.

In a video uploaded in 2017, she said: “I don’t know what his medical diagnosis is gonna look like. How much schooling will he need? Will he need a little bit more hands on? Will he be delayed?

“But if anything, my child is not returnable.”

But viewers were left confused when the little boy suddenly stopped featuring in the couple’s content – and it wasn’t long before the situation was addressed.

The video that ended it all

Viewers were left shocked after the couple sat down to announce they had re-homed the four-year-old.

“International adoption, sometimes there’s unknowns and things that are not transparent on file,” James said in the damning video.

“And once Huxley came home there was a lot more special needs that we weren’t aware of and that we were not told.

“For us it’s been really hard hearing from the medical professionals, a lot of their feedback, and things that have been upsetting. We’ve never wanted to be in this position. And we’ve been trying to get his needs met and help him out as much as possible… We truly love him.”

Myka then tearfully weighed in, as she admitted to feeling like a ‘failure as a mom’ and explaining Huxley had a ‘new forever family’.

“They found somebody that they felt would be ultimately the best fit and he is thriving, he is very happy, he is doing very well and his new mommy has medical professional training and it is a very good fit,” Myka told the camera.

Lawyers weigh in following backlash

After revealing their decision to dissolve the adoption, the Stauffers’ lawyers spoke to People, where they said the couple’s hope was to ‘provide Huxley with the best possible treatment and care’.

Thomas Taneff and Taylor Sayers said: “We are privy to this case and given the facts at hand, we feel this was the best decision for Huxley.

“In coming to know our clients we know they are a loving family and are very caring parents that would do anything for their children.

“Since his adoption, they consulted with multiple professionals in the healthcare and educational arenas in order to provide Huxley with the best possible treatment and care.

“Over time, the team of medical professionals advised our clients it might be best for Huxley to be placed with another family.”

New documentary shines a light on the shocking case

Directed by Rachel Mason, the HBO doc is aiming to put the magnifying glass on the family vlogging industry as it discusses the controversial case.

Featuring interviews with experts, the three-parter also examines just how much money these families can earn by putting their children front and centre of their content, as well as taking a deep dive into the events leading up to the couple re-homing their child.

Since the scandal, the couple have kept a low profile online, with Myka not posting on Instagram since 2020.

An Update on Our Family airs at 9.00pm ET/PT on HBO. New episodes will debut every Wednesday through to January 29.

While the main focus may have been on the field in Las Vegas, a lot of talk following its conclusion on the weekend has of course been on Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift.

While Swift and Kelce’s romance has been in the public eye for a while now, some questions remain on how exactly their relationship began.

Well, the NFL star did provide some answers to fans across the world last year.

“She’ll probably hate me for saying this, but… when she came to Arrowhead, they gave her the big locker room as a dressing room, and her little cousins were taking pictures… in front of my locker,” Kelce told WSJ Magazine.

But then things warmed up when Kelce received a text from none other than Swift herself.

The pair subsequently met up, including one trip in New York.

He said: “When I met her in New York we had already kind of been talking, so I knew we could have a nice dinner and, like, a conversation, and what goes from there will go from there.”

And the rest as they say is history.

Since the Super Bowl concluded, many have speculated as to what Kelce told Swift as they embraced following the game’s finale.

Heck, some Swifties have even urged the singer to ‘break up’ with Kelce after a ‘red flag’ moment earlier in the game.

But they might want to reconsider that after hearing the couple’s sweet exchange following Kelce’s win.

After the footage was uploaded to the NFL X account, many fans have reacted to the audio.

“Omg he couldn’t be more grateful with her and for her support… he knows and appreciates her efforts to support him and mind you this was his moment like he just won the SB and he was still tanking her,” one fan penned.

“You have to admit the seeing two people in love is really beautiful,” a second added.

After Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl for the second season running, fans have all been saying the same thing about Taylor Swift.

The San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs went head-to-head tonight (February 11) in the hopes of taking home the coveted Super Bowl trophy.

The 49ers appeared to have it in the bag early on in tonight’s game and long held a 10 point lead over their opponents, but the Chiefs eventually came back with a vengeance – ultimately leading to the game going to overtime as both teams ended on 19 points.

While it may be through no fault of her own, the ‘Blank Space’ singer featured heavily on the big screens during this year’s Super Bowl.

Swift was also seen celebrating as the Chiefs’ claimed the championship.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s conversation after Kansas City Chiefs’ win has gone viral on social media.

Yesterday (January 28) the Chiefs went head-to-head with the Baltimore Ravens for a spot at the 2024 Super Bowl and came off the pitch victorious.

And as Kelce came away from the game with a 17-10 win, he was greeted by Taylor Swift – a moment which has since been widespread online.

All I can say is if Kelce thought the NFL were previously ‘overdoing it’ with showing his new girlfriend supporting him at his Kansas City Chiefs games, wait until he sees this.

Swift started going to Kelce’s games last year, first hitting headlines for doing so in September when photographed alongside Kelce’s mom, Donna.

Cameras regularly cut towards Swift and and Kelce’s mom during the game and it caused quite the stir among football fans, some complaining the focus on the pop star was taking away from what really mattered – the sport.

However, Kelce argued on his New Heights podcast it actually ‘brings a little more to the atmosphere’ – despite acknowledging it was being ‘overdone a little bit for sure’.

And the atmosphere’s certainly heated up yet another notch since the Chief’s most recent game.

Footage of the couple has been widespread on social media showing the pair kissing as well as their conversation post Kelce’s win.

In one video, the couple kiss and embrace, before kissing again and Kelce then goes to hug his dad Ed. After a bit of chatter and Kelce popping on a hat, he embraces Swift again, she points at something and then they gaze into each other’s eyes.

In another video of the same moment but from a different – and closer – angle, Kelce can be seen exclaiming to Swift something along the lines of: “How about that?” or “Not bad huh?”

After hugging his dad, Kelce then turns back to Swift to say: “What’s up sweetie?” And Swift’s pointing is revealed to be the singer showing Kelce where she was sat when watching him.

At the end of the clip, Swift can be seen saying something as she puts her head against Kelce’s chest and fans of the duo have been flooding to social media in excitement.

One user said: “Does Taylor say ‘I love you’ at the end?”

“I think so!!” another responded.

A third wrote: “How many times have you watched this?…………. yes.”

And a fourth commented: “Have I stopped… no.”

And of course, the NFL couldn’t resist uploading its own video of the pair to social media too.

While the audio is cut out, it looks like Swift also says: “I can’t believe you did that,” during the pair’s post-match conversation.

And another video, taken before the pair unite, shows Swift saying: “I’ve never seen anything like that in my life.”
