Orlando Bloom responds to Keira Knightley’s criticism of Pirates movies after actor claimed she needed years of therapy

Orlando Bloom has responded to Keira Knightley’s criticism of the Pirates of the Caribbean film series after the actor revealed she needed years of therapy afterwards.

Knightley, 39, featured in multiple Pirates movies over the years, starring as the governor’s daughter Elizabeth Swann, who becomes a pirate leader.

The Oscar-nominated actor admitted she felt she was ‘taken down so publicly’ for starring in the franchise, telling The Times: “It’s a funny thing when you have something that was making and breaking you at the same time.

“I was seen as s**t because of them, and yet because they did so well I was given the opportunity to do the films that I ended up getting Oscar nominations for [Pride & Prejudice and The Imitation Game].

“They were the most successful films I’ll ever be a part of and they were the reason that I was taken down publicly.

“So, they’re in a very confused place in my head.”

Speaking of the films, her co-star Bloom, 48, has since told Entertainment Weekly that ‘it feels almost like another lifetime now’.

The actor starred as Will Turner, a blacksmith-turned-pirate who became Elizabeth’s love interest.

“I definitely understand where Keira was coming from, and she does wonderful things,” he added.

“I have a lot of positive takeaways.”

Knightley – who was 17 years old in the first movie – has also opened up about her struggles with fame during that time, and she underwent ‘many years of therapy’ to cope.

She told The Telegraph in 2019: “The fame that came with them I just couldn’t handle.

“So looking back, would I do anything different? No, I wouldn’t because I’m unbelievably lucky now, and my career is in a place where I really enjoy it, and I have a level of fame that’s much less intense.”

“She [Elizabeth Swann] was the object of everybody’s lust,” the film star added to Harper’s Bazaar in 2023.

“Not that she doesn’t have a lot of fight in her. But it was interesting coming from being really tomboyish to getting projected as quite the opposite. I felt very constrained. I felt very stuck.

“So the roles afterwards were about trying to break out of that.

“I didn’t have a sense of how to articulate it. It very much felt like I was caged in a thing I didn’t understand.”

Keira Knightley has made a heartbreaking admission after starring in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series.

The Oscar-nominated actor, 39, famously played Elizabeth Swann, a governor’s daughter who becomes a pirate leader.

She of course starred alongside Johnny Depp, who portrayed Captain Jack Sparrow, and Orlando Bloom, who starred as Will Turner, Elizabeth’s love interest and a blacksmith-turned-pirate.

Knightley featured in three of the films from 2003 to 2007 and has reflected on the problems that followed her.

She thinks she was ‘taken down so publicly’ for appearing in them, telling The Times in an interview: “It’s a funny thing when you have something that was making and breaking you at the same time.

Because of her experience on Pirates, Knightley says she will never do a big movie franchise again.

“The hours are insane,” she added.

“It’s years of your life, you have no control over where you’re filming, how long you’re filming, what you’re filming.”

Throughout the years the fame really got to her, so much so that she underwent ‘many years of therapy’ to cope.

The actor also said it was hard to shake off the Elizabeth Swann character, telling Harper’s Bazaar in 2023: “She [Elizabeth Swann] was the object of everybody’s lust.

“Not that she doesn’t have a lot of fight in her. But it was interesting coming from being really tomboyish to getting projected as quite the opposite. I felt very constrained. I felt very stuck.

Katy Perry reveals reason why she and Orlando Bloom split for a year admitting it saved her life

‘Teenage Dream’ singer Katy Perry opened up about her and Orlando Bloom’s relationship on the Call Her Daddy podcast

Katy Perry has shared the reason she and Lord of the Rings actor Orlando Bloom split for a year, admitting it saved her life.

On the outside, it seems like Perry and Bloom’s relationship has been a whirlwind romance.

After crossing paths at the Golden Globes in 2016, they officially confirmed their relationship a few months later.

Fast forward to 2024 and the pair are happily engaged and share their four-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, together.

However their relationship hasn’t always been smooth sailing, with the pair breaking up for a year back in 2017 after just 10 months of dating.

Perry – real name Katheryn Hudson – has now opened up about the split during an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, explaining to host Alex Cooper how the year-long separation had ‘saved her life’.

“We weren’t really in it from day one,” she said, explaining that she had been fresh out of a relationship at the time, while Bloom had just completed six months of celibacy.

“He was because he had just done a huge time of celibacy and he had set intentions.”

Perry continued: “I was like, ‘I can’t do this anymore. I need to swim in a different pond’. But, I had to do a lot real work.”

The singer then went on to explain how during their year apart she went on a journey of self-improvement, deciding to go on a week-long wellness retreat called The Hoffman Experience and credited the experience as something allowed her to rekindle the relationship with Bloom.

“I would not be on this planet without that process and meditation,” she explained.

“Because the noise got so large. When [2017 album] Witness came out and things started to shift, and I thought I really loved myself. I thought I really had that centre, but actually that core was created from outside validation.

“It just helped me rewire what I think about myself, and it helped me connect my head to my heart.”

The ‘Roar’ hit-maker then went on to add that she and Bloom regularly attend couples therapy in order to strengthen their bond and be the best parents possible to their daughter.

“We want to evolve that’s I think why we’re in our relationship is to become better humans so we can raise this beautiful human being,” she said.

“It’s been different layers. The more we do the work, the more we find the next level.”

The candid admission about their split wasn’t the only comment Perry made about her relationship with Bloom on the podcast, with the singer also revealing the NSFW reward her fiancé gets for completing household chores.

Fans are loving Orlando Bloom’s awkwardly brilliant reaction to Katy Perry’s VMAs performance.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star, 47, watched on as his superstar fiancée, 39, took to the stage at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) on Wednesday (11 September).

On the night, the ‘I Kissed a Girl’ singer also received the Video Vanguard award, which recognises lifetime achievement.

“There are so many things that have to align to have a long and successful career as an artist,” Perry said in her speech. “There are no decade-long accidents.”

Meanwhile, during her performance earlier where she performed a compilation of her biggest hits, people were left in stitches after spotting her potential soon-to-be hubby giving a hilarious reaction to ‘Perry shaking her butt cheeks’.

“Okay… Orlando Bloom’s reaction to Katy Perry shaking her butt cheeks, spreading eagle, scissoring and kissing a girl at #VMAs was pretty iconic hahaha!” one viewer tweeted.

Another added: “I saw that too. The cameraman didn’t miss.”

While a third wrote: “He looks so stunned.”

This comes after fans also joked that Bloom didn’t know a single Perry song, despite having been engaged since 2019 and sharing a four-year-old daughter with her.

“Orlando Bloom is reacting to this performance as if he’s never heard a single Katy Perry song before what is going on,” one viewer commented.

“Orlando Bloom does not know a single Katy Perry song did you see his face,” a second quipped after referencing a previous quote he made about his partner: “He already told you people he didn’t fall in love with Katy he fell in love with Katheryn.”

Bloom once said on the What Now? with Trevor Noah podcast: “Her music was everywhere … when I came up, it was just on every radio station.

“But I wasn’t conscious of like… it wasn’t what I was listening to.

“I fell in love with … Katheryn, this girl from Santa Barbara.”

Well, Perry recently opened up on her relationship with the actor and how she will reward him sexually for doing chores around the house.

During an interview on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, the singer said: “If I come downstairs and the kitchen is clean, and you’ve done it all, and you’ve done all the dishes, and you’ve closed all the pantry doors, you better be ready to get your d**k sucked.

“I mean like literally. That is my love language. I don’t need a red Ferrari! I can buy a red Ferrari.

“Just do the f**king dishes. I will suck your d**k! It’s that easy.”

At least it seems the spark is very much still alive in their relationship.
