Rapper files lawsuit against Lyft after being refused service because she was ‘too big’

A plus-sized rapper is taking Lyft to court after one of its drivers told her he wasn’t willing to drive her because she was ‘too big’.

Dank Demoss, real name Dajua Blanding, was refused the service earlier this month and took to Instagram to share a clip she recorded from the moment the cabby told her she couldn’t fit in his motor.

“AM I WRONG ? @lyft what yall got to say about this yall driver discriminated against me ….. I JUST FEEL LIKE YALL TREAT BIG PPLE LIKE S**T LIKE WE DON’T BELONG HERE,” she captioned the video.

In the clip, the driver can be heard pleading his case as to why he wasn’t willing to take her to her destination.

“I got no space at all, my car is small,” he says.

Demoss, of Detroit, Michigan, replied: “I can fit in this car.”

“No believe me you can’t, so… I’m sorry,” the driver responded.

She then asks what will happen with her money, to which he explains that he was going to cancel it so that she wouldn’t be charged.

He then explains it’s because he’s got ‘very tired tires’, the rapper responds: “What I got to do with your tires?”

Demoss was hoping for the driver to take her to a Detroit Lions watch party earlier this month.

Now, the 36-year-old has attained two attorneys, Jonathan Marko and Zach Runyan, to sue Lyft for discrimination.

Speaking to Fox 2 Detroit, she said: “I’ve been in cars smaller than that. I just want them to know that it hurt my feelings.”

While her lawyer Marko added: “I knew that it was illegal and I knew that it was wrong … It would be no different than a driver pulling up and saying, ‘I don’t want to have Black people in my car or I don’t want to have Christians in my car.’ It’s the same, under the law it’s the same.”

Lyft has issued the following statement: “Lyft unequivocally condemns all forms of discrimination—we believe in a community where everyone is treated with equal respect and mutual kindness. Our community guidelines and terms of service explicitly prohibit harassment or discrimination.”

The video, which Demoss uploaded on her social media account, drew thousands of comments in.

Commenting on the video, one person wrote: “He messed up when he said to order a xl and when he said his tires were too tired. I’m disappointed in @lyft.”

Another simply said: “SUE.”

While Lyft added in the comments: “We’re disheartened to look at this driver’s unacceptable behavior. Please DM us at your earliest convenience for additional support. We’d like to address this as soon as possible.”

Woman diagnosed with colon cancer reveals the five signs she dismissed after 'assuming her bra was too tight'

Woman diagnosed with colon cancer reveals the five signs she dismissed after ‘assuming her bra was too tight’

The five signs were dismissed by Radwah Oda

A woman whose has been diagnosed with colon cancer has detailed the five signs she dismissed after simply ‘assuming her bra was too tight’.

In the US, colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths, with 153,020 being diagnosed with the disease in 2023 and over 52,000 people losing their lives, according to experts.

Radwah Oda, from Houston, Texas, dismissed the early warning signs of colon cancer and has detailed five symptoms you shouldn’t ignore.

“If you have any of these symptoms, please don’t be concerned, but go see a doctor. Advocate for yourself,” she said in a viral TikTok video.

Chronic fatigue

While issues around the stomach area would be an obvious symptom for such a cancer, chronic fatigue is an obvious one you should probably go and get checked out.

Oda explained how she suffered from extreme tiredness before being diagnosed with cancer, which was ultimately a tell-tale sign.

She said in the video: “I had extreme chronic fatigue regardless of how many hours of sleep I slept at night. I would still need to take a nap a few times during the day and nothing really helped.”

Pain that is unexplained

Abdominal pain is another symptom of colon cancer, but if you’re experiencing pain elsewhere in your body, then it could be a sign the cancer has spread.

While this can be different for every individual, Oda explained how she noticed pain on her right side near her breast, though she initially dismissed it as something else.

“I just assumed my bra was too tight, even though it was just on one side,” she said.

Ora later found out the pain was due to cancer spreading to her liver.

Thin stool

In the viral TikTok video, Oda revealed how one of the early symptoms she experienced was ‘pencil-thin’ stool.

“My excuse at the time was that it must be constipation,” the TikToker recalled.

While the odd narrow stools shouldn’t be a cause for concern, consistent changes in your stool should really be looked at.

On top of her stool being ‘pencil-thin’, Oda ignored a common symptom of colon cancer which is blood found in your stool.

The TikToker initially put the symptom down to haemorrhoids.

Never satisfied using the toilet

Oda explained that how each time she needed the restroom she still ‘needed to go more’.

She added: “I wasn’t empty and I kept pushing and pushing, but nothing would come out. Again, I just assumed it was constipation.”

Disney seeks to dismiss wrongful death lawsuit because the victim was a Disney+ subscriber

Disney has drawn upon its Disney+ terms and conditions in a bid to dismiss Dr Kanokporn Tangsuan’s husband’s wrongful death lawsuit

Disney has issued a ‘preposterous’ response to a lawsuit filed against the company after a doctor passed away following eating at a Disney Springs restaurant.

On October 5, 2023, Dr Kanokporn Tangsuan passed away shortly after eating at a restaurant in Disney Springs shopping complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

The 42-year-old family medicine specialist – who worked at New York University’s Langone Hospital Long Island – was visiting the Walt Disney World Resort with her husband, Jeffrey Piccolo, and his mother. The trio dined at the Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant for dinner – which is run by Irish partners John Cooke and Paul Nolan not Disney.

A lawsuit filed by Piccolo claims Tangsuan told employees of the restaurant of her dairy and nuts allergies and repeatedly checked items on the menu were safe. The server consulting with the chef and repeatedly reassuring them the food would ‘unequivocally’ be allergen free – even when some items arrived without allergen flags on.

Around 45 minutes after consuming the meal, Tangsuan had an allergic reaction and collapsed while shopping in Planet Hollywood. Her EpiPen was administered, 911 was called and she was taken to hospital, but sadly she passed away – her cause of death ruled as a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) and accidental.

Piccolo’s lawsuit names both the restaurant and the Walt Disney Company alleging Tangsuan’s death was ‘totally preventable’ and could have been avoided had ‘Disney’s Raglan Road follow[ed] proper protocols’. It accuses Disney of having ‘failed to educate, train and/or instruct its employees [to] make sure food indicated as allergen free or requested to be made allergen free, was in fact free of allergens’ and that Disney had ‘control over the menu of food offered, the hiring and/or training of the wait staff, and the policies and procedures as it pertains to food allergies at Disney Springs restaurants,’ demanding $50,000 in damages.

And Disney has since responded.

Disney has called on the court to dismiss the wrongful-death lawsuit referencing Piccolo’s prior Disney+ membership for one month in 2019, alongside his purchasing of tickets to Disney theme park Epcot in 2023, BBC reports.

Why? Well, in signing up for a one-month trial of the streaming service or purchasing Disney tickets, there’s certain conditions you’re required to agree to.

In relation to the Disney+ subscription, Piccolo reportedly agreed to the terms of their ‘Subscriber Agreement’ listed in section seven.

The agreement states users must resolve any disputes through arbitration opposed to litigation – this means via a voluntary process involving a neutral third party opposed to a formal court process where a judge or jury decides the case.

Disney’s motion for dismissal has been branded ‘preposterous’ by Piccolo’s attorneys who accused it of having ‘buried’ the agreement in the terms and conditions.

In a court filing dated August 2, West Palm Beach attorney Brian Denney wrote: “The notion that terms agreed to by a consumer when creating a Disney+ free trial account would forever bar that consumer’s right to a jury trial in any dispute with any Disney affiliate or subsidiary, is so outrageously unreasonable and unfair as to shock the judicial conscience, and this court should not enforce such an agreement.”

A spokesperson for Disney told UNILAD: “We are deeply saddened by the family’s loss and understand their grief. Given that this restaurant is neither owned nor operated by Disney, we are merely defending ourselves against the plaintiff’s attorney’s attempt to include us in their lawsuit against the restaurant.”

UNILAD has contacted Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant for comment.

Shocking footage shows cop flipping pregnant woman’s car because she was pulling over too slowly

A pregnant woman sued Arkansas police after an officer performed a manoeuvre which flipped her car when she didn’t immediately pull over

A pregnant woman took legal action against Arkansas State Police after an officer flipped her car over while pulling her over for alleged speeding.

A member of Arkansas State Police caught a vehicle driving along an Arkansas highway in July 2020, allegedly traveling at 60 miles an hour.

Footage has revealed the moment the officer stopped and flipped over the car using a special maneuver, before realizing the driver inside was pregnant.

Officer Rodney Dunn performed a maneuver known as the ‘PIT’ maneuver – precision immobilization technique.

The US Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs explains: “The PIT (Precision Immobilization Technique) Maneuver is a technique used by law enforcement personnel to force a fleeing vehicle to abruptly turn 180 degrees, causing the vehicle to stall and stop.”

It’s reported Officer Dunn performed the maneuver while the car was still allegedly traveling at 60 miles an hour, and footage has revealed the aftermath of Officer Dunn flipping the vehicle and walking over to the car to check who’s inside.

In the recording, the member of authority can be seen asking if the driver is ‘the only one in the vehicle’.

The woman – named Janice Harper – responds: “Yes. I’m pregnant!”

When asked why she didn’t ‘stop,’ Harper explained she ‘didn’t feel like it was safe’.

Dunn replied: “Well, this is where you ended up.”

Harper said she ‘thought it would be safer to wait until the exit’, but Dunn told her you should always ‘pull over when law enforcement stops you’.

Harper decided to file a lawsuit against the police force, claiming she’d put on her blinker and emergency lights and had been looking for a safe spot to pull over.

She called the use of the PIT maneuver an ‘excessive use of force’ and accused the officer of ‘negligence’ alongside placing not just her life but the life of her unborn child at risk, ABC7 reported at the time.

The lawsuit was ultimately settled and Arkansas State Police agreed to limit how the PIT maneuver can be used, with the lawsuit stating it should only be used should it be to protect an officer or third person from risk of serious injury or death.

Harper’s attorney, Andrew Norwood, said, as per AP News: “We are extremely pleased that we were able to secure the policy changes and updated guidelines pertaining to the use of PIT maneuvers which was the primary goal of this case and will help protect all Arkansans moving forward.

“While Mrs. Harper will undoubtedly need time to recover from the psychological trauma she suffered after the PIT maneuver in question, she is excited to close this chapter of her life and focus more on her family.”

Arkansas State Police said Officer Dunn was disciplined over the incident, while also stating at the time: “The Arkansas State Police periodically initiates revisions to its pursuit policy to ensure it is consistent with applicable case law and existing training related to the PIT maneuver.

“The department has consistently required its troopers to apply an objectively reasonable standard when using the PIT maneuver and will continue to do so.”

It’s reported Harper’s baby was later delivered and suffered no complications as a result of the incident.

Woman recalls the horrifying moment she was ‘burned’ from the inside after being struck by lightning

Thalita Teixeira Padilla was struck by lightning in Boston while walking her dog in 2023

A woman recalled the horrifying moment that she was ‘burnt’ inside her body after being struck by lightning.

Thalita Teixeira Padilla, 32, had been out walking her dog when she was struck by lightning in the chest.

When you think of the kind of injury you can get from an extreme electric shock, burns are common from the huge amount of energy which is being discharged.

For Thalita, this meant that she suffered a cardiac arrest and didn’t have oxygen for 15 minutes.

Not only that, but the intense energy had burned Thalita inside her body.

This resulted in a spinal cord injury, while the sound of the lightning strike ruptured one of her eardrums, as well as scaring away her dog.

In a small mercy, the Australian shepherd dog was found hours later unharmed and the pair were reunited after the horrific incident.

She described her injuries in a piece for PEOPLE about the incident and her recovery.

Thalita wrote: “The lightning burned my chest and my spinal cord from the inside, leaving me with a spinal cord injury, something I didn’t find out about until three months after the incident.

“The bolt then came out of my right leg, my knee and foot. And I suffered a lot of nerve damage.”

As a result of being struck, Thalita lost the ability to walk as well as the hearing in one of her ears.

She had to relearn how to do many every day things in life, such as bathing and texting.

At first, she couldn’t lift her arms above her head, but was determined to do everything she could to get better.

She wrote: “There were still small miracles that my husband later told me about. Despite what happened, I didn’t have any broken bones, a brain bleed or brain damage.”

The nurse added: “Honestly, I was depressed and in so much pain. I didn’t even want to wake up in the morning because I felt pain all over, and it was nerve pain so nobody knew how to treat it or had ever seen it before.

“It was a very unique pain that I felt from my spinal cord injury. Fortunately, I’ve since stopped feeling that pain. Maybe my body just needed time.”

Despite all this, Thalita shared that she wants to continue doing what she can to help people.

She said that it could have happened to anyone, and that she was ‘in the wrong place at the wrong time’.
