People have become millionaires after investing in US President-elect Donald Trump’s memecoin.
If you’ve not been keeping a close eye on the cryptocurrency market lately, you’ll have completely missed the fact that Trump released his $Trump memecoin as he prepares to take office and become inaugurated tomorrow (January 20).
The soon-to-be 47th president of the US sent out a tweet from his official Truth Social, his social media platform account, telling his followers to join him in ‘winning’ to celebrate his presidency.
The website said: “This Trump Meme celebrates a leader who doesn’t back down, no matter the odds.”
However, it came with a disclaimer to confirm that the coin is ‘not intended to be, or the subject of’ an investment opportunity and it’s also ‘not political and has nothing to do with’ any campaigns, persons or offices.

It states that it is not intended to be an ‘expression of support for, and engagement with, the ideals and beliefs embodied by the symbol $TRUMP’ and it’s also not ‘intended to be, or to be the subject of, an investment opportunity, investment contract, or security of any type’.
Co-ordinated by CIC Digital LLC, which is an affiliate of the Trump Organization, the meme coin did something that many could not have anticipated- it skyrocketed into the billions overnight.
Within just six hours, it went from a few cents to $14, and it just kept climbing from there.
Hours after its launch, the market capitalisation was nearly $5.5bn, as per CoinMarketCap.com, making 500 traders millionaires thanks to their investments.
While only some 200 million coins have been issued, the website stated that 800 million will be released in the next three years for traders to snatch up.
But while many have become super rich thanks to their investments, others have accused Trump of benefiting from the coin.
Nick Tomaino, a crypto venture capitalist, said on social media: “Trump owning 80 percent and timing launch hours before inauguration is predatory and many will likely get hurt by it.”

According to SolanaFloor, a news site which reports on digital finance, wrote on X: “A trader is up $29.8M on $TRUMP, Donald Trump’s official memecoin on Solana. He spent $1.09M to buy 5,971,750 TRUMP coins, now worth $30.8M in under 2 hours—a 2,634% gain. The trader has not sold any coins yet.”
At the time of writing, the memecoin has become the second largest on the market, with a 272 per cent increase in investment.
According to onchain data, it had over $3 billion in trading volumes within hours of it going live, it boasted a $2 billion market capitalization and it even brought in early buyers over $70 million in paper gains, and around $1 million for the smaller traders.
As this is the first time a president has given their likeness to a memecoin, it’s a pretty big deal in the crypto world.
According to a screenshot of traders, over 525 people became $TRUMP millionaires in less than 24 hours of investing in the coins.

While Donald Trump may be president-elect, he does have an upcoming sentencing for his involvement in the hush money scandal – but what happens now?
The former president will be returning to The White House in January after defeating Kamala Harris in the 2024 US presidential election.
Trump declared victory at his campaign’s HQ in West Palm Beach, Florida earlier on Wednesday (6 November) after being projected to win the battleground states of North Carolina, Georgia and Pennsylvania.
The 45th US president said he had ‘made history’ as he was joined on stage by some of his key allies.
“Every single day I will be fighting for you, with every single breath in my body. I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous America that children deserve,” Trump said.
“And that you deserve. This will truly be the golden age for America.”

While Trump prepares for his return to the Oval Office, he is scheduled to be sentenced on November 26 for his involvement in a hush money case.
Trump is a convicted felon after he was found guilty in Manhattan on all 34 counts of falsifying business records.
Trump had previously denied the accusations, which claim that the records were linked to a hush money payment to adult film star, Stormy Daniels, by his former lawyer, Michael Cohen.
After he was found guilty, Trump described the trial as a ‘disgrace’ and ‘rigged’ and said he was an ‘innocent man’.
Now Trump is president-elect, what impact, if any, will that have on his sentencing scheduled for later this month?
Well, it was previously confirmed that whether Trump won or lost the election, he would have a mandatory sentencing, Business Insider notes.

However, there is a chance the date may be pushed back, as Trump could argue he is too busy running the country.
While it was never really expected Trump would face jail time for the charges, him now being president-elect rules out the possibility of prison, according to Neama Rahmani, president of West Coast Trial Lawyers.
“Trump winning makes it logistically impossible and a certainty that he won’t receive any time,” he told Business Insider.
Meanwhile, speaking of Trump, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, former chief of the Manhattan District Attorney’s trial division, said: “If he wins, say goodbye to all the criminal cases,” as per ABC News.
The law expert went on to say a Trump win would act as a ‘get out of jail free card’ for him.

Having attended Jimmy Carter’s funeral earlier this week, Kamala Harris has shared a photo from the ceremony and everyone is noticing the same awkward thing.
Carter died at the age of 100 years old on December 29, having become the longest-living president in US history.
President Carter is survived by his children Jack, Chip, Jeff, and Amy, 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
The former president, who left office in 1981, lived so long that two of the eulogies were written by people who died before him— his vice president Walter Mondale, and his White House predecessor Gerald Ford.
On Thursday (January 9), Carter was laid to rest in Washington National Cathedral, with all of his living successors in attendance.
Many have spotted an awkward detail from a recent Kamala Harris social media post (Tasos Katopodis/Getty Images)
Vice President Harris was also there, and has since posted a picture from the funeral on the VP’s official social media accounts.
She wrote: “President Jimmy Carter loved our country. He lived his faith, served the people, and left the world better than he found it.
“President Carter’s many contributions will echo for generations to come.”
Joe Biden and former presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama were all in the picture as they placed their hands over their hearts.
President-elect Donald Trump was also in attendance, sat by Obama and incoming first lady Melania Trump, but the Trump’s were nowhere to be seen in the snap.
It seems as though the incoming president of the United Sates has indeed been cropped out.
“This crop is legendary,” one person said in the Instagram comments.
A second added: “I immediately laughed when I saw this image. I love a good cropped photo.”

And a third remarked: “I love the crop on this photo.”
While you may not see him, Trump was indeed in attendance at the ceremony, and even shared a laugh and a joke with Obama.
During one snippet, Obama was seen laughing at Trump who said: “Can you imagine?” according to a lip reader who spoke to Sky News
“We are here for a tough show,” the president-elect continued.
Trump also asked his predecessor: “Would you give me a go at starting it?”
Obama then said: “Yeah, I would. Yeah. We’ll see what happens.”
Away from what Obama and Trump were chatting about, Carter’s family paid tribute to the 100-year-old.
Joshua Carter, his grandson, said: “He built houses for people who needed homes. “He eliminated diseases in forgotten places. He waged peace anywhere in the world, wherever he saw a chance. He loved people.”

Warning: This article contains discussion of abortion which some readers may find distressing.
Donald Trump has been outed by a debate moderator for his ‘lies’ when arguing why women should ‘trust’ him on the issue of abortion.
Yesterday evening (September 10), Donald Trump and Kamala Harris went head-to-head in the presidential debate hosted by ABC News at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
While Trump has previously suggested he may introduce a 15 to 16 week national ban on abortion, when asked about banning abortion in August he told Fox & Friends there ‘will not be a federal ban’ and he ‘would never’ enforce one, putting the issue ‘now back in the states where it belongs,’ as quoted by CBS News.
And at the presidential debate last night, the question was raised once again as to both candidates’ stances on abortion laws.
Referring to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz – Harris’ Democratic vice presidential nominee – Trump said: “[H]er vice presidential pick says abortion in the ninth month is absolutely fine. He also says execution after birth – it’s execution, no longer abortion because the baby is born, – is okay. And that’s not okay with me. Hence the vote.”
However, the former president of the US was quickly corrected and shut down by the debate’s moderator, a member of CBS News’ Confirmed Team.

Moderator Linsey Davis wasted no time hopping in to correct Trump, responding: “There is no state in this country where it is legal to kill a baby after it’s born.”
Indeed, Governor Walz has never said that killing a baby after it’s born is ‘okay’ and neither does the bill he signed in 2023 to ensure all of the state’s existing protections – in relation to the right to abortion – remain in place for the future no matter who enters the courts.
The Minnesota Star Tribune details the changes which Governor Walz signed into law last year, explaining decisions about a baby which come in later stages of pregnancy – such as a fetal defect or risk to the mother’s life – are now left up to the doctors and families opposed to the state.

When it comes to a child being born, the updated law maintains if the baby is born alive even ‘as a result of an abortion’ it will be recognized as a human person and ‘accorded immediate protection under the law’.
Chapter 145, section 423 of the 2023 Minnesota Statutes reads: “All reasonable measures consistent with good medical practice … Shall be taken by the responsible medical personnel to care for the infant who is born alive.”
As Davis said, it is not legal in any state to execute an infant after birth and Harris also responded: “Well, as I said, you’re going to hear a bunch of lies.”

Melania Trump has released a video making a huge claim in relation to the assassination attempt against her husband, Donald Trump.
Melania took to social media to share her thoughts on the assassination attempt that took place while Trump was speaking at an open-air campaign rally.
The Republican candidate was on a stage near Butler, Pennsylvania, when a gunman, later identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired shots in his direction, striking his ear and causing it to bleed.
Trump was rushed from the stage by Secret Service agents, who later shot Crooks dead at the scene.
After the shooting, Trump took to social media to say ‘much bleeding took place’.
He also thanked the Secret Service for their ‘rapid response’.
“I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear,” Trump wrote on his platform, Truth Social.
“I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin.
“It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country.”

Now, Melania has made a bold claim about the shooting in her video shared online, alleging there is ‘more to the story’ of her husband being targeted.
Speaking directly into the camera, Melania said: “The attempt to end my husband’s life was a horrible, distressing experience.
“Now the silence around it feels heavy. I can’t help but wonder why didn’t law enforcement officials arrest shooter before the speech. There is definitely more to this story. And we need to uncover the truth.”
The video comes to an end with an image promoting her upcoming memoir, Melania, which is set to be released in October.

Her claim comes after more details emerged about the assassination attempt in the days and weeks after it took place, with US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle describing the event as ‘unacceptable’.
Speaking to ABC News, she said it was ‘something that shouldn’t happen again’.
“The buck stops with me,” she said. “I am the director of the Secret Service, and I need to make sure that we are performing a review and that we are giving resources to our personnel as necessary.”
Melania’s video comes just hours before Trump is set to debate his competitor, Kamala Harris, at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The debate is set to begin at 9pm ET, 8pm CT and 6pm PT.
