If you ever chat away in English while on holiday and find yourself stared at by a non-native speaker then this may be why.

Even if you don’t speak another language, it’s likely you could probably distinguish what language it is based on what it sounds like.

Even if you don’t understand necessarily what the other person is saying, you may gage whether they’re talking in Spanish or French for example.

However, a TikToker has since revealed what people who don’t speak English really make of people chatting away in English and it’s blowing everyone’s minds.

A TikToker who goes by the Language Simp – or @languagesimp – speaks several languages, including English – he’s certainly in the ideal position to reveal how we sound to non-English speakers.

And would you believe it, it seems we pretty much talk like the characters in the Sims, bizarre, right?

In a clip that’s since been viewed more than eight million times, he shares a short speech – if you can call it that – in a bizarre gibberish that sounds a lot like English but makes absolutely no sense.

The effect is a little strange for those of us who do speak English, with one social media users commenting: “I felt like I should understand what he was saying.”

While another asked: “You are telling me people hear me talking like a Sim?”

“I feel like I understand what he’s saying, but I also don’t,” echoed a third.

Another TikTok user pointed out: “This sounds right… but it’s not… “

“For some reason I keep actually trying to comprehend what he’s saying and then realize he’s speaking literal gibberish not english,” penned a fifth.

A sixth revealed: “No cause if you don’t pay attention to what he’s saying it literally sounds normal.”

“This is what I hear when I disassociate,” joked someone else.

Many were inspired by the TikTok video to try their hand at being bilingual, with one confessing: “This is why I’m learning another language.”

And one viewer pretty much hit the nail on the head perfectly.

They wrote: “Its like hearing a conversation from outside: you know in what language they are speaking but you cant actually tell what they are saying.”

A final TikTok user added: “My train of thought, to try an understand what you actually said, derailed.”

Same.

Maybe the the Language Simp has hit the nail on the head… or he could just be talking nonsense.

A group of friends recreated the same photo 19 years later and there’s one particular reason so many are calling it a ‘success’.

It’s pretty rare to have stuck with the same group of friends you had at the age of 10 all the way through to 17 years old and even 29 too.

However, there’s another reason social media users are finding it so heart-warming a group of six pals recreated the same image nearly two decades on.

When you’re 10 years old, not only is life very different to what it’s like now, but you were probably a whole different person too – it would be slightly concerning if you weren’t.

When most of us had reached a decade on this planet, we were still into playing with dolls, playing hide-and-seek and going to bed by 9pm.

By the age of 17, we’d moved onto being stressed about exams, dating and sneaking out with out parents’ drinks and by 29, well, 9pm bedtimes are a rare and beautiful occurrence, you have to pay taxes and try and stay afloat solo in the adult world amid a cost of living crisis too.

So, the fact a group of friends could manage to cling together throughout such a treacherous journey is an achievement in itself but Matt Gruber, Joel Atia, Mykil Bachoian, Kevin Opos, Ben Danon and Aviv Edelstein from Los Angeles managed to do it, sharing three photographs of themselves 19 years apart to Reddit.

And it hasn’t taken long for people to flood to the comments, many saying why the series of three images of the best friends round a dinner table is truly such a ‘success’.

The images were first shared to Reddit thread r/pics 10 years ago, and reposted yesterday (2 June) by u/alanboston405.

And one user said: “Head counts match. I’d call that a success on its own.”

“I was just going to say that he’s lucky they’re all still around,” another echoed.

And a third said: “That’s cute. I wish I still had friends from my youth.”

Ben said Kevin has been the ‘glue’ to the group staying together and Mykil added he believes the longevity ‘stems from’ growing up in the same community and sharing similar interests.

Joel added the group aren’t just ‘friends’ to him, but ‘family,’ resolving: “We’ll always be there for each other no matter the time and distance that separates us.

“There’s that old saying ‘Blood is thicker than water’, but is it thicker than 20 years of friendship and memories? No, they’re exactly the same.

“Kev, Mykil, Aviv, Matt and Ben aren’t my friends, they’re my brothers.”

In the space of just over a month the Kobayashi family has suffered immense loss after their daughter vanished in LA.

On November 8, Hannah Kobayashi was meant to be heading to New York having departed from Maui in Hawaii, but when she landed in Los Angeles she decided against waiting in LAX airport to catch her connecting flight, and instead vacated.

The aspiring photographer is understood to have text her friend saying she had had a ‘spiritual awakening’ and traveled into the Californian city.

The 30-year-old was later spotted with an unknown man and three days later, on November 11, her family claimed to have received texts from her explaining that someone was trying to steal her identity.

Her father Ryan Kobayashi flew into LA to help search for his missing daughter. However, on November 24, Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that Ryan was found dead in what is believed to have been suicide while searching for his daughter, at around 4.00am.

Now, the Kobayashi family has released a statement through their attorney Sara Azari on Twitter, thanking those that have helped and revealing Hannah has been found ‘safe’.

“We are incredibly relieved and grateful that Hannah has been found safe. This past month has been an unimaginable ordeal for our family, and we kindly ask for privacy as we take the time to heal and process everything we have been through,” it began.

It comes more than a week after Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell gave a press briefing explaining Hannah is ‘voluntarily missing’ and that ‘she has a right to her privacy’.

“As the family is aware, late yesterday after traveling to the US-Mexico border we reviewed video surveillance from US Customs and Border Protection which clearly shows Kobayashi crossing United States border on foot into Mexico,” he said.

Adding: “To date the investigation has not uncovered any evidence that Kobayashi is being trafficked or is the victim of foul play. She is also not a suspect in any criminal activity.

“She has a right to her privacy, and we respect her choices but we also understand that the concern her loved ones feel for her.”

Blake Lively has broken her social media silence for the first time since filing a lawsuit against Justin Baldoni in order to address the wildfires currently tearing through Los Angeles.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced as the most destructive wildfire ever seen in Los Angeles County continues to burn, resulting in the deaths of at least five people and the destruction of at least 1,000 structures.

More than 17,000 acres have been consumed by the fire with zero containment, and dozens of celebrities are among those who have lost houses as the devastation continues.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency in the area and issued an executive order to help support those affected by the fires, saying: “We are putting all available resources behind fighting these wildfires, including leveraging local and federal assets.

“California has thousands of boots on the ground working to combat these fires.”

In a bid to help share resource information, Lively took to her Instagram story for the first time in weeks to share a post directed towards ‘everyone affected by the Los Angeles fires’.

Lively’s post included a Google Docs link to a spreadsheet created by Mutual Aid LA Network (MALAN), which is being updated live with ‘countless resources’ for those in need, including details about where to find shelter, board animals and find key information about the fires.

In a follow-up post, she added: “MALAN is regularly updating this Google sheet with mutual aid resources for folks in LA. There’s info on shelters, free PPE, food, animal rescues, and more. If you have additional resources, please share them with @mutualaidla.”

Lively is the latest celebrity to speak out about the fires, while Adam Brody, Paris Hilton and Mandy Moore are among those who have lost their homes in the blazes.

Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul has a sole post on his Instagram profile to acknowledge the devastation, writing: “Absolutly [sic] devastated to see everything on fire.

Paris Hilton also issued a statement after witnessing the destruction of her Malibu home on TV, writing that she was ‘heartbroken beyond words’.
