Police issue heartbreaking update 20 days after identical sisters vanished from Aberdeen city centre

The river search for the two identical sisters who were reported missing in Aberdeen has ended.

Eliza and Henrietta Huszti were last seen at Market Street at Victoria Bridge at about 02:12, on 7 January.

The 32-year-olds, who belong to a set of triplets, were last spotted on CCTV cameras nearby Aberdeen Boat Club, and police have revealed that searches in the River Dee have come to an end.

Superintendent David Howieson of Police Scotland said: “The investigation continues to trace Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, both 32, who were last seen on Market Street at the Victoria Bridge over the River Dee around 2.12am on Tuesday 7 January, 2025.

“Our thoughts are very much with their family at what is a very difficult time.

“Extensive and detailed searches have been carried out of the River Dee and the Harbour area, using local and national specialist police resources, including the dive and marine unit, police dogs and air support, and those of partner agencies.

“These searches have now concluded at this time but enquiries will be ongoing to trace Eliza and Henrietta.”

However, the superintendent noted that ‘coastal areas, both north and south of Aberdeen city, will continue to be searched and any further information received by police will be acted upon’.

“I would again stress there is nothing to suggest any suspicious circumstances or criminality,” he added.

The siblings, originally from Hungary, moved to Scotland around 10 years ago and have been described as white, of slim build, with long, brown hair.

Their brother, Jozsef, told the BBC that he thought the pair were saving up to buy their own home, but found it ‘strange’ when their landlady said ‘they wanted to immediately end their tenancy agreement’.

“We don’t understand this whole thing,” he said a couple weeks ago.

“That they wrote a message to their landlady, that they wanted to immediately end their tenancy agreement. We didn’t have any information about that.

“So that’s the strange thing, that the girls didn’t tell us anything about that.

“They never mentioned any such plan.

“Even when my mother spoke to them on the Saturday, they didn’t mention anything about it, that they had any plan to move out.”

The concerned family issued a statement earlier this month, which read: “Please do not spread any unfounded rumours.

“We can only say what’s already been in the news.

“The family is not in a position to give everyone separate information.

“Thank you all for being with us in these difficult times.”

Police have launched an appeal to find two sisters who vanished from Aberdeen city centre after being spotted on CCTV cameras at 2am on 7 January.

Sisters Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, both 32, have been reported missing from their home in Aberdeen, with camera footage taken at 2.12am on Tuesday morning showing them on Market Street at Victoria Bridge.

Footage showed they crossed the bridge and turned right onto a footpath next to the River Dee, and were heading in the direction of the Aberdeen Boat Club.

Both of the sisters are described as white with a slim build and long brown hair.

Chief Inspector Darren Bruce, Area Commander for Aberdeen City North, said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing to trace Eliza and Henrietta and searches are being carried out in and around the area where they were last seen.”

As a well as appealing to members of the public to come forward with any information they’ve seen, the police also asked businesses in the area to look at their CCTV footage in the early hours of Tuesday to see if they can spot any sign of the sisters, and for drivers with dashcam footage from that time to get in touch.

CCTV footage is a major aspect of police efforts to piece together the whereabouts of the two women and build up a picture of their movements, but any and all support from the public and local businesses would be crucial in building out that picture.

In an appeal to businesses in the area which may have CCTV cameras of their own, Chief Inspector Bruce said: “Local officers, led by specialist search advisors are being assisted by resources including the police dogs and our marine unit.

“The Torry side of Victoria Bridge where they were last seen has many commercial and industrial units.

“Searches are ongoing here and we would urge businesses in and around the South Esplanade and Menzies Road area to please review their CCTV footage for early morning on Tuesday, 7 January, 2025 and contact us if it holds anything that may be relevant to our investigation. We also ask anyone with dashcam footage from that time to contact us.

“We are continuing to speak to people who know Eliza and Henrietta and we urge anyone who has seen them or who has any information regarding their whereabouts to please contact 101 quoting incident number 0735 of Tuesday, 7 January, 2025.”

Police in Scotland have revealed the final text message sent from two sisters who are currently missing in Aberdeen.

As the search for Eliza and Henrietta Huszti continues, authorities have revealed that one sister sent a text to her landlady before they both disappeared.

What happened to Eliza and Henrietta Huszti?

Sisters Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, both 32, were last seen on 7 January, with security footage capturing the pair walking towards the Scottish city’s Victoria Bridge at 2.12am. The clip shows Eliza and Henrietta crossing the bridge before turning right onto a footpath next to the River Dee.

Neither sister has been seen or heard from since.

Both Eliza and Henrietta are described as being white and slim with brown hair. Footage captured on CCTV shows the pair wearing grey-coloured coats. Earlier footage captured around 2.50pm on Monday, 6 January, 2025 showed the pair both wearing rucksacks.

Two weeks on from their disappearance, and police have now shared details of the text message which one of the sisters sent to their landlady, as the family continue with their desperate search to find answers.

What did Henrietta Huszti’s final text message say?

In the latest update, authorities revealed the sisters sent a text message in the early hours of the morning from Henrietta’s phone, indicating that the pair would not be returning to the flat. Around the same time, CCTV saw the pair walking towards the bridge.

Henrietta’s phone was then disconnected from the network and has not been active since.

Concern over the sister’s welfare was raised the following day when their landlady visited the flat and discovered personal belongings still there.

The sisters’ family back in Hungary are aware of their disappearance and are said to be in contact with police.

What has the Huzsti family said of the disappearance?

Their brother Jozsef told the BBC in an interview that the family were unaware of the sisters’ plans to end their tenancy.

“They never mentioned any such plan,” he said.

A translated statement on behalf of the family has also been issued to the BBC, which asks for privacy.

“We kindly ask everyone for respect,” the statement reads. “Please do not spread any unfounded rumours.”

Speaking about the disappearance, Superintendent David Howieson has ruled out any possibility of ‘criminality‘ being involved.

“We have carried out a significant trawl of public and private CCTV footage as we try to establish the sisters’ movements,” he said.

“Several hours of footage are being examined by a dedicated team of officers and we have so far established that Eliza and Henrietta were at the footpath next to the River Dee at 2.50pm on Monday, 6 January, 2025.”

He added: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing and I would again stress there is nothing to suggest any suspicious circumstances or criminality.”

Police have issued an update regarding the death of ice hockey star, Adam Johnson.

Johnson, 29, from Minnesota, was killed in October last year when he collided with another player in a tragic ice hockey accident.

The Nottingham Panthers star – who was competing in Sheffield at the time – was fatally injured during the game.

The American hockey player suffered a cut to the neck during the match, with more than 8,000 fans watching from the sidelines.

According to witnesses, players from both the Sheffield and Nottingham teams quickly formed a ring around Johnson after he suffered the fatal injury.

He was rushed to hospital but sadly passed away.

Following the incident, a man was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.

Now, South Yorkshire Police have provided an update on the case. Authorities have confirmed the man arrested has been re-bailed until 14 May.

A spokeswoman said: “A man who is under investigation following the death of ice hockey player Adam Johnson in Sheffield has been re-bailed.

“Adam, aged 29, was fatally injured during a game between the Sheffield Steelers and Nottingham Panthers on 28 October last year.

“He was sadly later pronounced dead in hospital, and a post mortem confirmed he died as a result of a neck injury.

“A man was arrested on 14 November last year on suspicion of manslaughter and later bailed. He has been further re-bailed until Tuesday 14 May 2024.

“Our thoughts remain with Adam’s loved ones as our investigation continues.”

Adam’s partner Ryan Wolfe was part of the 8,000 plus crowd at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena.

Speaking at the Memorial Building Arena in Minnesota after the incident, she said: “There’s so many things I could say about Adam and if I had the time I would talk about him for hours, but instead I wanted to write him a letter similar to something I would’ve written him for our wedding day.

“I want you to know how much I love you and adore you. You have been so amazingly supportive and kind to me since the day we met and I couldn’t be more grateful for it.

“I always thought that maybe if I was lucky enough after a lifetime together I might start to be more like you.

“You’re such a special person, you had the best sense of humour, the biggest heart, the quickest wit and the kindest soul.”

As a result of the incident, the coroner involved with the case called on ice hockey’s governing body to introduce more neck protection for players.

Sheffield senior coroner Tanyka Rawden issued a Prevention of Future Deaths Report to Ice Hockey UK and the English Ice Hockey Association (EIHA) about using neck guards in the sport.

Rawden said she was ‘sufficiently concerned that deaths may occur in the future if neck guards or protectors are not worn’.

The English Ice Hockey Association (EIHA) has said that neck guards will become mandatory from 2024 onwards, but it cannot control the Elite Ice Hockey League where the Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers compete.

The league said it would not be making neck guards mandatory but would ‘strongly encourage’ players to wear them.
