Brooke Shields makes awkward confession about sex life with husband and what she ‘pretends’ to do

Brooke Shields has opened up about her sex life in her new memoir and why there’s ‘nothing wrong with using whatever you need’.

Mother of the Bride star Brooke Shields has opened up about her relationship with sex and how it’s changed across the years, the 59-year-old admitting there’s something she sometimes ‘pretends’ to do with her husband.

In her memoir – titled Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old: Thoughts on Aging as a Woman – Shields reflects on having a ‘fervent sex drive’ when she was younger.

However, she notes, as quoted by US Weekly: “But I never felt like I could step into that appetite in the way that I wanted to.”

And recently when she was asked about her sex life by a doctor it prompted her to take a closer look at her relationship with sex.

The actor – who recently opened up about a gynaecologist’s ‘invasive’ actions during labia surgery – reveals she explained to the doctor she has ‘no desire’ to have sex but is ultimately ‘fine with it,’ however the doctor ‘was not fine with it’.

Shields goes on to admit she ‘sometimes pretend[s]’ she’s ‘asleep’ when he husband Chris Henchy tries to initiate things in the bedroom.

“Here I am […] sometimes pretending I’m asleep when I know Chris is in the mood,” she explains. “That has nothing to do with Chris – he’s hot! He’s been working out at a boxing gym recently, and he looks incredible.”

While recognizing this is ‘not great,’ Shields then opens up about some of the reasons she finds sex difficult and isn’t often in the mood.

Much of her lack of desire to have sex has come from her relationship with her body as a woman who is growing older, Shields says, referring to it as ‘bodily s**t’.

Shields adds as a result of surgery she’s had, she also sometimes finds sex ‘painful’.

She also explains she needs ‘lotions and potions’ alongside ‘the right sleepwear’ to ‘fully enjoy sex at this point’.

“Maybe calling it sleepwear is contributing to the problem,” she jokes, adding her ‘special pillow’ helps as well, alongside ‘maybe a tequila‘ so she ‘can relax’.

While the actor recalls being ‘on the receiving end of a lecture [by the doctor] about how important sex is to a relationship,’ Shields resolves: “Listen, there’s nothing wrong with using whatever you need! Whatever it takes.”

For any woman, getting older can sometimes pose the risk of your libido dipping right to the ground, but it seems actor Kate Winslet has found a way to actually boost it, instead.

The Titanic star recently hinted that she’s been increasing her sex drive through a certain type of treatment and appeared to urge other women to do the same.

The 48-year-old has been married to Edward Abel Smith, 46, for 12 years now, and she seemingly claims this treatment has made her feel ‘sexy’ again.

During a recent appearance on the How To Fail podcast, Winslet took part in a mini agony-aunt session where listeners would ask for her advice.

That’s when one person asked for help to boost their sex drive.

At first, Winslet explained how your sex drive has a lot to do with your hormones, and as a woman, it could be down to your thyroid.

The mother-of-three shared: “Sometimes women have a real dip in libido because there might be stuff going on with their thyroid.”

For those who have hypothyroidism, you could be sluggish, fatigued and overall, just not in the mood thanks to your thyroid hormone not producing what you need to help you feel energized.

But that’s not the only thing that can affect it.

Winslet explained that your testosterone could be low too.

She added: “There could also be stuff going on with your level of testosterone.

“A lot of people don’t know this but women have testosterone in their body, when it runs out – like eggs – it’s gone, and once it’s gone you have to replace it and that is something that can be done and you’ll feel sexy again… I know.”

Winslet continued: “I would suggest for your physical self, have your thyroid levels checked and your testosterone levels checked well because those things could have a direct impact on how you’re actually feeling.

“It’s not your fault, our bodies are weird and they behave in strange ways especially as we get older.

“So there could be a dip in those hormonal levels for you that is contributing much more than you think to how you’re feeling about having sex with your boyfriend, so I would definitely go ahead and do that.”

It essentially helps to restore the body’s levels to where they should be, and studies have found that this could actually increase a woman’s sexual libido too.

However, the Mayo Clinic states that there isn’t much research into the safety of using this method and how well it works long term.

Winslet went on to share that she feels so much better and she thinks she looks ‘amazing’ too.

She said: “I’m great with it [her body] – I think I look flipping amazing. We have to own it, this is the thing.

“We’re so conditioned, women, in our 40s to think ‘oh well I’m creeping closer to the end’. You think you’re going into menopause and you’ll stop having sex, your boobs are going to sag and your skin’s going to go crapy. First of all, so what? It’s just conditioning.

“I think women as they get older get juicier and sexier and more embedded in their truth of who they are and more powerful, more able to walk through the world and care less and that is an empowering thing. I say to my friends all the time ‘you look amazing, you look great’.”
