Teacher arrested and charged for sexually assaulting 13-year-old student and allegedly having a baby with him

Warning: This article contains discussion of sexual assault which some readers may find distressing.

A teacher in New Jersey has been arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault of one of her former students.

Laura Caron, 34, has been charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, and second-degree endangerment to the welfare of a child.

The Cape May County Prosecutors Office confirmed in a Facebook post on Wednesday (January 15) that she had been arrested and taken into custody without incident.

The press report further said: “The charges stem from an investigation revealing that between 2016 and 2020, Ms Caron engaged in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student, born in 2005, who had been residing in her home during that time.”

According to authorities, Caron is alleged to have abused the student from the age of 11 through to 15-years-old, with investigators further claiming that she began an abusive relationship with him when teaching him and his brother in the fifth grade.

When he was 13, a then 28-year-old Caron allegedly became pregnant with his child when he was living with her, The Independent reports.

Investigators say the victim’s father took to social media in December last year to share his belief that his son and Caron’s 5-year-old child, who was born in 2019, bore an uncanny resemblance.

In court documents, authorities revealed that the alleged victim’s family became friends with Caron and started allowing their children to stay with her every week before this progressed to them living permanently with the suspect, ABC News reports.

He then reportedly told his sister in a text message that he had allegedly been abused by Caron and fathered a child. He also reiterated this story to the police when questioned.

If convicted of sexual assault, Caron could face imprisonment of 10 to 20 years, while the other two charges could result in an additional five to 10 years.

Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland has issued a statement on Caron’s charges, who was a teacher at Middle Township Elementary School.

He said: “This arrest underscores the unwavering commitment of our office and law enforcement partners to protect the children in our community. Teachers hold a position of great trust, and the allegations in this case represent a deeply troubling breach of that trust.

“We will work tirelessly to ensure justice is served and to support the victim and their family throughout this process.”

According to The Independent, The Middle Township School District is cooperating with officials and is offering counselling to any affected by the news, as superintendent David Salvo said: “When the district was first advised of the allegations, the staff member was immediately placed on and continues to be on paid administrative leave.

“Additional questions should be directed to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.”

Scottie Scheffler stunned the golfing world on Friday when it was reported he was arrested.

Scheffler was arrested on May 17 in Valhalla, Kentucky, and faces a slew of charges.

The four charges include second degree assault of a police officer, along with lesser charges of third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from officers directing traffic.

In his statement shared on InstagramScheffler addressed the incident as he wrote: “This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers.

“It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do,” he continued.

“I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I’m hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today.

“Of course, all of us involved in the tournament express our deepest sympathies to the family of the man who passed away in the earlier accident this morning. It truly puts everything in perspective.”

Following this, Scheffler has now spoken out about his experience while in jail and seemed to make light of the situation.

He also spoke about what it was like warming up in a jail cell ahead of PGA Championship.

Speaking at a press conference he said that ‘stretching in a jail cell was a first’ for him.

He added his head was ‘still spinning’ from the day’s events and that he had ‘never imagined going to jail’ ahead of tee time.

He said: “I was just sitting there waiting and, you know, I started going through my warm up. I felt like there was a chance I’m able to still come out here and play and so I started going through my routine.

“I tried to get my heart rate down as much as I could today, but like I said, I still feel like my head is spinning a little bit. But I was fortunate to be able to make it back out and play some golf.”

The incident that saw Scheffler being escorted away into police custody in handcuffs happened as he was heading towards the Valhalla Golf Club.

Scheffler had attempted to bypass traffic resulting from an accident, and a police officer instructed him to stop.

Darlington said that Scheffler had driven for a further 10 or 20 yards after the instruction before pulling over as he turned into the golf course.

After he pulled over the officer told Scheffler to get out of the car and was then taken away into custody.

UNILAD has contacted Scheffler’s representatives for comment.

Woman arrested and charged after calling 911 nearly 400 times over bogus emergencies

Woman arrested and charged after calling 911 nearly 400 times over bogus emergencies

One of the woman’s hoax calls meant a man genuinely needing medical attention wasn’t helped in time and later died

A woman is facing jail time after making hundreds of bogus 911 calls to emergency services.

Kesha Kennedy pleaded guilty to felony disrupting public services, felony making false alarms, and 25 counts of misdemeanor misuse of 911 systems last week and is now awaiting sentencing.

Kennedy, 34, is said to have called 911 almost 400 times over a four-year period where she complained of ill health each time.

The South Zanesville Fire Department (SZFD) are the ones to have responded to the calls, putting a strain on local services.

With this in mind, SZFD responders were unable to attend to other people genuinely in need. In one circumstance a person who called 911 after having difficulty breathing later died as SZFD was attending to yet another of Kennedy’s hoax calls.

Apparently the 34-year-old called 911 several times a week – sometimes even several times a day.

Her antics are said to have spanned across four different Ohio counties over the years in question.

Upon her umpteen visits to the hospital, Kennedy was consistently given a clean bill of health, but this didn’t stop her calling emergencies services again at a later date.

It’s said that for each hospital trip Kennedy was taken by ambulance, which was funded by taxpayers through Medicaid.

Prior to her guilty plea, Kennedy was evaluated by a forensic psychologist.

Muskingum County Assistant Prosecutor John Litle, who handled the case, told the court that Kennedy demonstrated ‘a factitious disorder’ and was therefore a ‘liar’.

Newark Police Department reportedly warned Kennedy on several occasions that the bogus 911 calls would end up getting her arrested. It wasn’t until an incident in August 2023 that saw her taken into custody, however.

Law enforcement officers responded to a report of a behavioral emergency at Licking Memorial Hospital involving Kennedy at the time and when police arrived Kennedy all of a sudden claimed that she couldn’t stand or walk.

After being helped to a bench, the woman then pretended to be unconscious and when the Miranda Rights were given to her, she claimed that she didn’t understand them because she was disabled.

However a hospital went on to confirm that Kennedy was not disabled and did not need medical treatment or transfer to another medical facility.

Litle has since called for better tracking of nuisance non-emergency calls in a bid to prevent abuses of the system like those committed by Kennedy.

“Obviously some type of check or balance needs to exist, so that this type of abuse is more quickly reported by EMS to law enforcement because 350 pointless ambulance runs is absolutely ridiculous,” Litle said.

“I was absolutely shocked when this case was brought to my attention by South Zanesville Police Chief Mark Ross. We reached out to the Sheriff’s Office for an investigation and Detective Richard Perry was able to quickly lock down a case and get this abuse stopped.”

Kennedy will be sentenced at a later date.

Woman charged after allegedly stomping cat to death and eating it in front of neighbors

Police have reported that cat fur was found on her lips

Warning: This article contains discussion of animal cruelty which some readers may find distressing.

A woman has been arrested after allegedly ‘stomping’ on a cat to death, and eating it in front of her neighbours.

Allexis Telia Ferrell, 27, has been charged with injuring animals, disorderly conduct, and prohibitions concerning companion animals, after reportedly stamping on a cat until it died.

And as if the incident couldn’t get any more gruesome, it has been alleged that she devoured it ‘in a residential area in front of multiple people’.

The attack happened in a housing complex in Stark County, Ohio, according to the Canton Police Department.

She was arrested at around 11pm last Friday [August 16], and police say she had a blank, unsmiling expression, upon her arrival at the station.

She was called into court on Monday, where her initial bond amount was set at $100,000.

And her next court appearance has been scheduled for 26 August.

The arrest report said they saw a woman with a cat in her hands, ‘which appeared to have its head smashed in’.

Blood was observed on her hands and feet, and officers even found the feline’s fur on her lips.

After taking the woman to Stark County jail, officers secured the ‘cat as evidence,’ police said.

It is not yet known who the cat belongs to or if it was a stray.

Eating cats and dogs has long been considered inhumane in the US, as well as many other parts of the world.

However, Former US presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr, came under fire after a photo emerged suggesting that he had barbecued a dog.

Despite the accusations, Kennedy pushed back and said the animal carcass he held was a goat.

But eating cats and dogs is actually normalised in other parts of the globe.

Late last year, Gia Bảo restaurant in Vietnam served a ‘specialty cat meat’ and feline soup.

Not long after they announced the controversial menu item, the restaurant was closed down.

Investigations found that the slaughterhouse had purposely drowned 300 cats per month, in order to make the dish, and served them to people of the Southeast Asian countries where eating felines is a relatively common practice.

Speaking to the Metro, the owner noted that he did not want to kill cats, but had to do so to make a living.

Pham Quoc Doanh said: “Before selling cat meat at this restaurant, I served other normal food and drinks.

“However, the income was not enough to cover the living cost of my family.

“It was then I tried selling cat meat since there was no other available restaurant serving this in the area.”

If you see an animal in distress and/or in need of help, call 911 if a crime is in progress. You can also visit a directory of animal abuse investigation agencies by state here.

11-year-old student raises $7,300 to pay off his entire school’s lunch debt

11-year-old student raises $7,300 to pay off his entire school’s lunch debt

Missouri fifth grader Daken Kramer went way beyond his original goal

A fifth grader has raised thousands to pay off his entire school’s unpaid lunch bills.

Daken Kramer, an 11-year-old student at Thomas Ultican Elementary School (TUE) in Blue Springs, Missouri, started a fundraiser in a bid to help pay off the bills which have accumulated as a result of other students and their families being unable to afford school lunches.

And his mom has shared the latest update on his efforts. Prepare to be reminded there is still some good in the world:

Daken’s mom Vanessa Kramer has been active in sharing his journey and fundraising efforts on her social media, telling CNN: “Children in elementary school should not have debt tied to their name. We found out that there are high schools that keep seniors from attending prom or walking at graduation if they have stuff like student lunch debt.

“Some families can’t help it. They can’t pay it off.”

In a post to Facebook on 22 May, she shared a video she originally uploaded to TikTok which sees Daken explain why he started the fundraiser in the first place.

In the clip, Daken introduces himself, explaining he’s in his last year of elementary school and credits his school for ‘shap[ing] [him] into an outgoing, kind, compassionate, respectful, strong leader’.

“I’d like to do something to show my gratitude,” he adds.

The 11-year-old revealed he would be launching his own personal fundraiser called ‘Daken feeds TUE’ – live until he graduated on May 21 – to ‘collect money to help pay off student lunch debt’ – which is reported at his school as having accumulated to ‘over $3,000’.

The student challenged friends, family and local businesses to donate ‘what they can’ to the cause.

The video documents Daken’s fundraiser seeing an increase in donations, first raising around $500, then around $900 and also his heart-warming reaction when his ‘new total’ went over the target, coming in at $3,370.

And the donations didn’t stop there either.

As of 21 May, Daken managed to raise a whopping $7,470 – more than double what was needed to wipe the student lunch debt at the school, the additional money reported as going towards the high school’s lunch debt.

Daken took to the stage at his school to present the school the cheque, alongside thank everyone for taking part and staff for keeping him ‘healthy both physically and mentally,’ the administration for ‘keeping [him] safe’ and to a specific teacher too.

Vanessa’s caption to the video of Daken noted: “This will be an experience that stays with him his whole life.

“This has sparked something in Daken that makes him want to continue to change the world for the better.

“He has already asked me what the next step is to help with school lunches. I told him we can definitely start researching this summer if he’s still interested, but for now let’s just enjoy these last few days of elementary school.
